The school's school council, comprised of students’ parents, community members and teachers, according to representative Alicia Deitner, felt that, with the end of the Kindergarten to Grade 8 school, the upcoming changes to the education program in Huron County should be recognized. Deitner explained that the first volume of the cookbook, a hand- typed and bound book printed on 8.5 by 11 paper, was released in 1996, and the school council felt this was the proper time to release a second one. Deitner explained that the 1996 cookbook was used in very imaginative ways, stating that it served as a gift for parents to give students when they had reached milestones in their lives, like graduating school or getting married, and that the school council believed a similar project would see comparable results. This cookbook will be smaller, and will be sent away for binding near the end of the month. The group is still searching for recipes, and still trying to connect with past and present families, staff and students to make the cookbook as representative as possible for the group. “This are really going to be like a collector’s item,” Deitner said. “They’re the kind of thing that can be passed from parents to students and from students to their children.” The school council is hoping to have the book printed and prepared in time for the Brussels Fall Fair, and plan to charge $10 per book, as this isn't a fundraising initiative. “We just want to mark this transition,” she said. “And have students be able to remember their time at Grey.” Since the release of the first volume in 1996, the idea for a new cookbook is brought up every few years, according to Deitner, and the group wanted to jump on it. Anyone with information, recipes, or ideas for the book can send them to the school at greyscc@fc.amdsb.ca Recipe submission templates and information on the school council can be found at greycentral.amdsb.ca/schoolcouncil .htm Grey Central preps book Earth Hour comes early at Blyth PS Continued from page 3 hard to pull the play together. It was partially delayed because of a snow day but they are now underway. The school participated in Earth Hour on Friday since the school is not open on Saturday. The school powered down all its lights and devices from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Last week at Blyth Public School, Mrs. Middleton’s class has been working on light and sound in science. In math they have been working on proportional reasoning. They are learning about medieval times in social studies and then they are going to Knights of Valour at REACH in Clinton for their year- end trip. They are also going to the Huron-Perth Agriculture and Water Festival.
