An idea that originated in Australia five years ago has been adopted by Canada now for three years. An hour is not much of a hardship. But it makes one realize how conditions were in the evenings before hydro was connected to homes. Considering the nastyweather we’ve experienced at timesthis winter our area has beenfortunate not to have experienced a hydro blackout. Ergo, an hour in the dark was not difficult to do. However, early reports are that the hour was not as well participated in as last year. London had a five per cent reduction in usage while they recorded a drop of six per cent last year. Toronto’s usage dropped only five per cent as compared to last year’s savings of 15 per cent. There will need to be further education before next March. Perhaps the schools need to come on board for children might find the idea fun and take the message home. The robins have been here now for two or more weeks but I think theyare still wearing their winter coatslike the rest of us. The killdeer maybe the true harbingers of warm weather this spring. I recall there were some strong winds as March got started, so March could have been considered as coming in like a lion. The weather for this week is forecast to be cold but sunny so the month will hopefully go out lamblike. The Blyth Festival Singers will be joined in a spring concert, Jubilee, by renowned singer, Denise Pelle, from London. Tickets are available from any choir member.Funeral services for Beth Knoxwere held last Thursday. Beth was alongtime resident of Hullett Township and Londesborough. She moved a trailer home into the village in the late 1960s on property where the Methodist Church once stood. Originally a member of Burns United Church, she later joined Londesborough United Church. Hers were hands always ready to help a neighbour, to knit, crochet or quilt. Her optimistic and caring personality was an example to those whose lives she touched. Your prayers and concern will help her family and friends deal with her passing.
