Coultes, McCulloch, Coultes speak at Belgrave WIThe Belgrave Women’s Institutemet on Tuesday, Feb. 15 beginningwith a potluck lunch. The president,Doreen Marks welcomed 12
members and 27 guests and asked
Rev. Tom Murray to say grace.
Following the meal the program
convenor, Dorothy Coultes
introduced three students from East
Wawanosh Public School to give
their prize-winning speeches.Victoria Coultes spoke on“Goldilocks”; Hunter McCulloch,“I’m so embarrassed” and Katherine
Coultes, “Carbon footprints on the
planet”. They were each given a gift.
Gloria and Wayne Topping from
the Brethren in Christ Church in
Fordwich spoke and showed
pictures of Gloria’s trip to Haiti last
year. She joined a group who tooksupplies for the homeless followingthe earthquake. They are working tobuild homes and enlarge schools and
hospitals. She learned that many
amputees do crafts to sell and others
sell produce at outdoor markets. The
pictures illustrated the poverty and
destruction of the country. They
were thanked with a gift. The
program closed by Nancy Jardinreading, “It’s St. Patrick’s Day”.The business meeting began withthe minutes, financial report and roll
call. A letter was read asking for
support for the Huron County
Plowing Match.
It was agreed to donate $50 to the
committee. The WI members fees
for the coming year will be
increased to $20. More informationwill be obtained about the healthysnacks for students at EastWawanosh Public School before

Belgrave birdhouse subdivision already boasts tenants

are a true time investment, taking as
long as two years to complete.
The bird paradises are mostly
build for sparrows and purple
martins, and the homes can house
hundreds of the winged guests.
A huge population of birds has
already moved into some of the
birdhouses he has on display at his
home.
“That’s the most important part of
all this and the message I try to get
out,” he said. “These don’t just look
unique, the birds do use them.”
While his original inspiration
came from a childhood dream to
build houses in the sky, Looser
stated that inspirations for the
houses come from old buildings and
the birds themselves.
“Some of these buildings mirror
real buildings that I’ve seen,” he
said. “While others I’ve built from
scratch.”
One of the biggest improvements
that Looser has implemented,
according to him, are rooftop bird
baths on the houses.
“I noticed the birds playing in
some water that had pooled on top of
one of the buildings,” he said. “So I
started building bird baths on top of
the units. A lot of my new ideas
come from [the birds]. I’ve learned
over the years what they like and
what they don’t.”
Birds congregate to the houses in
the morning, and Looser says that is
why he originally started building
them.
“They’re nice to see in the
morning, coming in and out of the
individual units,” he said.
Since opening his business in
Belgrave, Looser estimates he has
had approximately 2,000 visitors,
some from as far away as Texas and
Wisconsin.
As for the future, Looser has
already expanded his business and is
selling plans for his houses online so
that others can build them, but he is
planning on new projects.
“I’ve been thinking about doing
squirrel and dog houses,” he said.

Jesus compared our ears to soil.
He told about a farmer scattering
seed for growth in four types of soil:
hard ground, rocky soil, overgrown
ground and well-tilled soil. In all
four cases the seed is the same – the
listener is different. Three-fourths of
the world isn’t listening to God’s
voice – his music. It’s not that we
don’t have ears, it’s that we don’t
use them. Jesus urges us to learn to
listen like sheep and learn to
recognize God’s voice – music and
follow because we’re familiar with
the leader’s voice. We need to spend
time with God and listen to him on a
first-hand experience. God isn’t
interested in meeting our substitute;
he wants to share time with the
original – you! Let our hearts begin
to hear the music of our creator. Let
God have us and love us – and don’t
be surprised by the result.
Doug Walker and John Nixon took
up the offering followed by the
singing of “God’s Ways are
Wonderful” and the Prayer of
Dedication which was read in
unison. “In the Bulb there is a
Flower” was the song of creation
and destiny. When the children came
up from Sunday school, Rev. Tom
asked what they want in life and
what they would want for other
children and they replied fittingly.
The song of what you see and hear
was, “Come, Now, You Blessed”
which was the closing hymn. The
call to mission was read
responsively. The benediction and
the choral blessing, “Go Now in
Peace” concluded the morning
worship service. All the songs were
accompanied by Elizabeth Procter.
Birthday greetings were extended
to Meaghan Carter.
On Sunday, March 27, following
the worship service, there is a
potluck lunch in honour and
thankfulness for the music ministry
of our own long-term music
Director/accompanist, Elizabeth
Procter. Come out and take part in
thanking Elizabeth for her
dedication to many years of service.
Potluck lunch on Sunday for Procter
