Heritage Theatre show to
feature hits from the 1950s
The Blyth Festival is offering a
March Break arts program for
students aged 8 to 12. “My Puzzle,
My Pieces” is a fun and challenging
program that uses theatre games,
painting, sketching, and physical
movement as a free-wheeling
introduction to self-expression.
Over the course of five days,
students will build confidence as
they develop and explore their own
identities. Each day the students will
focus on different aspects of their
lives and how interaction with others
helps define themselves and the
world around them.
Each person has many different
interests and passions that make
them an individual (pieces of their
own puzzle) and it takes many
people to make up a community
(pieces of a larger puzzle). Over
this week students will learn,
through visual and performing arts,
to celebrate their own individuality
and how it is our differences that
help to create a productive
community.
“My Puzzle, My Pieces” is led by
local theatre professional Lisa Hood
and visual artist Laurie Whitson.
The program offers something for
boys and girls who simply want to
enjoy the freedom of expression
through theatre, visual art, and
movement.
“My Puzzle, My Pieces” runs
March 14-18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
in the former library located in the
north wing of Blyth Memorial Hall.
Registration is $100 per student for
the entire week.

“We got married in a fever, hotter
than a pepper sprout…we’ve been
talking ‘bout Jackson…ever since
the fire went out…I’m going to
Jackson…”.
Most fans of country music can
easily recall these famous lyrics
sung by the legendary Johnny Cash
and June Carter in their signature hit
“Jackson”, a Grammy winner for the
duo back in 1968. Of course, Cash
and Carter scored other notable hits
including “Daddy Sang Bass”,
“Help Me Make It Through the
Night” and “It Ain’t Me Babe”
amongst many other audience
favourites.
On Sunday, March 27 at 3 p.m.,
the music and lives of Johnny Cash
and June Carter will be celebrated at
the Blyth Memorial Hall in a new
touring show entitled “Johnny and
June: Together Again”. The
performance features top-calibre
tribute artists Jim Yorfido and his
real-life wife Pam in the title roles.
Jim is best known for his starring
role in “The Sun Records Story”, the
official, international touring show
of the legendary Memphis-based
record label that launched the career
of the “Man in Black”. Sun Records
was the home base for many of
Cash’s best known hits including “I
Walk the Line”, “Folsom Prison
Blues” and “Get Rhythm”. Yorfido
has won rave reviews across North
America for his amazing portrayal
of Johnny Cash, which captures the
incredible baritone voice of the man
himself.
Jim notes “this professionally-
scripted show mixes witty and
humorous dialogue with a
fascinating, but true, story, all woven
together with great music. When you
combine that with the real-life
chemistry I have with my spunky
wife Pam, it’s a very entertaining
combination.”
In addition to the talented cast,
“Johnny and June: Together Again”
prides itself on musical authenticity.
“We’ve spent a lot of time on the
details for this show including
vintage wardrobe, vintage musical
equipment including upright “slap”
bass, note-for-note guitar licks, and
every song is performed in the
original key,” says Pam.
“Johnny and June is a family-
oriented, fully-interactive show that
will have the audience laughing,
crying and clapping along, and I’m
truly proud to be associated with
such a talented cast and historically
authentic show.”
Musically, “Johnny and June:
Together Again” covers the entire
careers of both artists including
Johnny’s biggest solo hits, plus
timeless favourites from the
legendary Carter Family. Songs
include “Ring of Fire”, “Wildwood
Flower”, “Sunday Morning Coming
Down”, “I Walk the Line” “Boy
Named Sue” “Folsom Prison Blues”
plus numerous other classics.

When teens see a problem in their
community or in the world, they
immediately want to help. Either on
their own or as groups in schools,
churches or clubs, teens are finding
ways of raising awareness and
funds for projects that build wells
and schools in far off places,
programs that help people
struggling with mental illness, and
initiatives that improve self-esteem
and prevent bullying. At the
upcoming Mini ME-to-WE event
on Friday, March 25 at Blyth

take to the stage presenting through
video, power point, word, song, art
and rap the work they are doing.
