MacDonald-Dewit wedding
first in new Waterloo church
Michelle De Wit and Kevin
MacDonald made history when they
were married on Saturday, Oct. 16,
2010. With their 10 a.m. wedding,
they were the first couple to be
married in the new Hope Fellowship
Church in Waterloo.
Michelle, who was residing in
Waterloo at the time, is the daughter
of Dick and Elizabeth De Wit of Port
Stanley, but formerly of R.R.1,
Ethel. Kevin, living in Goderich at
that time, is the son of Don
MacDonald and Mary Lowe of St.
Catharines.
The bride wore a full-length,
modified v-neck-style dress in white
with delicate beading throughout the
dress.
Serving as bridesmaids were:
Jennifer Hessels, Georgetown;
Cynthia DeWit, Waterloo and
Yvonne De Wit, Waterloo. They
wore knee-length dark purple
dresses, each unique and chosen by
the bridesmaids.
Ushers included Abe Bergsma and
Lucas Lee, Niagara Falls, and Mike
Garbowicz, St. Catharines.
Pastor Michael Zenker of
Hope Fellowship Church
officiated.
A reception, in the form of a noon
brunch, was held at St. George Hall,
Waterloo. Guests enjoyed a full
breakfast, cheesecakes served
instead of traditional wedding cake
and candy bars as favours.
Master of ceremonies was Tom
Dean of 104.9 The Beach who kept
guests entertained with “mad libs”,
making guests sing love songs in
order to get the bride and groom to
kiss.
An after-party was held that
evening at McMullan’s Pub in
uptown Waterloo.
The couple capped off their
special day with a wedding trip to
the honeymoon capital of Niagara
Falls.
Kevin and Michelle started their
married life in Goderich, but have
since moved to Wasaga Beach
because of a business transfer.

MS –As weddings have become
less regimented and more expensive,
the traditional bridal party is often
pared down to a best man and a
bridesmaid or two. Their roles,
however, have remained constant
through the years.
Whether the wedding you’ve got
in mind is large or small, formal or
casual, conventional or original, it’s
helpful to have a sense of the roles
that bridal party members have
played through the years.
• Maid of Honour: Usually the
closest friend of the bride and
sometimes a relative. A married,
divorced, widowed, or older woman
might be called the matron of honor.
She assists with the details of the
wedding plans, like shopping for the
bridal gown, addressing invitations
and choosing flowers. She arranges
the bridal shower in conjunction
with the bride’s family, is in charge
of co-ordinating the bridesmaids and
organizing fittings, and typically
signs the couple’s certificate of
marriage or wedding licence as a
legal witness. At the reception, she
