U16 and U18 players, as part of the
EMSA requirements. Registration
remains similar to last year for
soccer players that are age U12 and
under, as they do not require a
passbook. The passbooks require
some extra paperwork to get set up.
At registration organizers will need
more information for the U14
through U18 divisions this year
which includes a photocopy of their
birth certificate to leave at
registration, the player must be at
registration to sign the appropriate
papers and the player must be at
registration to have their photo
taken.
This will take extra effort for the
soccer committee and soccer
families and co-operation to help
meet these requirements is asked, so
we can move forward in a timely
and positive fashion. Blyth soccer is
for youth ages three (born in 2008)
to 18 (born in 1993). Registration
will be held at Blyth Public School
on Saturday, March 5 from 9 a.m. to

The 2010-11 season for theWingham Ironmen came to an end
on Sunday evening.
The Mitchell Hawks ended the
Ironmen’s season with a 5-2 victory
in game seven of the best-of-seven
semi-final series. Mitchell won the
series four games to three. Game
seven was played at the North Huron
Wescast Community Complex on
Sunday night.
The Hawks took a 2-0 lead in the
first period and added a third tally in
the second period.
David Jones got the Ironmen on
the board at 5:59 of the third period.
Chris Corbett assisted. Tyler Kellum
got the Ironmen to within one of the
Hawks at 12:49. Graham Ashcroft
and Corbett assisted.
Just over a minute later, Mitchell
made it 4-2 and they added an empty
net marker at 19:11.
Coach Chad Haggitt said he was
disappointed in losing game seven.
“We lost to a good team,” he said.
“They are going to give Walkerton
all they can handle.”
The coach said they rolled three
lines all night.
“There were a couple of guys on
the fourth line who saw very little
ice time.
According to Haggitt, Mitchell did
a good job of forechecking the
Ironmen.“We did a better job on
Saturday adjusting to their
forechecking,” he said.
The coach said the Ironmen
played hard in the game, andthroughout the series.Wingham forced a game sevenwith a 4-2 decision over the Hawksin a game played in Mitchell on
Saturday evening.
Chris Corbett gave the Ironmen a
1-0 lead at 11:10 of period one.
Wade Stephenson made it 2-0 at
14:45 of period two. Cory
MacDonald gave the Ironmen a
three-goal lead at 5:59 of the third
period.
Mitchell scored two goals just
over three minutes apart to trail the
Ironmen by one. However, Aaron
Armstrong scored an empty net
marker at 19:29 to ensure the
victory.
The Hawks took a 3-2 series lead
last Friday in a game played in
Wingham by scoring a 4-1 decision.
Mitchell scored once in the first
period and added a second goal in
the second period.
Brett Brophy got the Ironmen on
the scoreboard at 1:14 of the third
period.
Mitchell scored two powerplay
goals in the third period to claim the
victory.
“It was not really a good game for
us,” coach Haggitt said following the
game.
He said Mitchell has a lot of
veteran players who really want the
series to extend their playing career.
The coach said that penalties
really hurt the Ironmen in the last
two games.
The Ironmen were having trouble
getting the puck out of their zone
throughout the game and Haggitt
said it was because they were a bit
lax in their own zone.
Mitchell evened the series at two
games apiece on Feb. 22 with a 4-3
decision in Mitchell.
The Ironmen took a 2-0 first
period lead on goals by Cole Pellett
and Kellum. Stephenson made it
3-0 at 1:56 of the second
period.
Mitchell scored two goals in the
second period and added two third
period powerplay goals to claim the
victory.
The Ironmen awards banquet is
being held Saturday, April 16 in the
Knights of Columbus Centre.
