Are you interested in exploring
options for changing the boundaries
in the village or the provision of
services within the village as one?
Someone will be knocking on
your door in the next few days
looking for your signature on a
petition concerning the recent
discussion of amalgamation into one
municipality.
It must be stressed that this
petition is simply to gauge interest in
this issue. The person knocking on
your door will not be pressuring you
to join one municipality over the
other. The question will not even be
asked at this point. By signing this
petition you are stating that you are
interested in learning the pros and
cons of changing the village
boundaries.
This will be a long, arduous
process – this petition is a startingpoint. If you live or own propertywithin the village and are interestedin signing this particular petitionplease contact Juanita Hamp at 519-526-1160 or Koreen Moss at 519-526-1060.A point of interest showing what
kind of issues arise from the cross-
section of the village would be the
garbage pick-up. It has recently
come to pass that each municipality
must purchase garbage stickers
individually. If you live in Ashfield-
Colborne-Wawanosh (ACW)
and had purchased stickers from
the local restaurant, Waste
Management will not pick up your
garbage.
Stickers Restaurant has recently
stopped selling garbage stickers. If
you reside in ACW, stickers are
readily available at the Auburn Co-
op. For Central Huron residents,
stickers must be purchased
in Londesborough or Clinton.
North Huron residents must travel
to Blyth to purchase garbage
stickers.
Issues such as this may be
rectified if the boundaries of the
village are modified to include all of
the village in one municipality.
There has been a fantastic
response to the request for letters ofsupport for the Auburn PlaygroundCommittee. Several letters havebeen submitted and will accompanythe Ontario Trillium fundingapplication when it is sent in nextweek. The playground committeewould like to thank everyone in the
village for their support. The
Committee looks forward to seeing
new and familiar faces at the next
meeting at 7 p.m. on Feb. 24 at the
Auburn Hall.
Thirteen members and two guests
were present at the Auburn
Community Hall for the Feb. 17
meeting of the Auburn Women's
Institute. President Irma welcomed
everyone and opened the meeting
with the “Ode”, Mary Stewart
Collect and “Oh Canada”.
Following this she gave a reading
entitled “The Delivery Man”.
Correspondence included
information from District Secretary
Dorothy Coultes regarding the
planning meeting scheduled for
March 7 at 1:30 p.m. to take place at
the OMAFRA building in Clinton.
This meeting is being held to plan
the District Annual on May 30 as
well as the Fall Rally.
Donations were approved to the
London Children’s Health
Foundation and the Christian BlindMission. Plans were made for theCalvalcade Card Party on March 17at 1 p.m.Roll Call was answered bymembers giving an old-fashionedremedy.This was curator’s meeting in
charge of Laura May Chamney who
read many interesting items and
happenings in Auburn during 2010.
A comical reading entitled “Twee-
Tweedle Dee-Doodie, Tweet-
Twiddle to You” ended Laura May’s
presentation. Lois Elliott read an
essay written by Linda Walker of
Fordwich entitled “Potatoes Every
Day”. She was a provincial winner
in 2010.
A delicious Valentine’s lunch of
cake and ice cream was served by
Jean Plaetzer and Margaret
Siertsema.

else did.”
Van Diepenbeek also read from a
list provided by staff that indicated
the many things that would need to
be changed if the logo was changed,
and stated that the time and money
that would need to be spent would
be prohibitive if council did decide
to pursue this.
Affected items would include
municipal flags, lapel pins, banners,
maps, truck and parade decals,
financial statements and cheques,
letterhead, envelopes, tax
documentation, forms, business
cards, applications, signage,
township merchandise, and
advertisement files, as well as
others.
“The point is well taken,” he said
in response to support for Drew’s
idea. “But council is willing to leave
it the way it is.”

PEOPLE AROUND AUBURN
NEWS
FROM AUBURN
Continued from page 1
Blyth Christian Reformed Church
and The Blyth Church of God.
An expected 170 countries and
2,000 communities across Canada
will be participating in the event to
pray and act in solidarity with other
communities around the world and
the people of Chile.
The services will feature
educational information about Chile
and the adversities the nation has
faced, as well as information
regarding its unique culture and
heritage.
Bordered by Peru, Bolivia,
Argentina and the Pacific Ocean,
Chile was visited by Spanish
explorers in the 16th century who
eventually conquered the nation,
despite resistance from indigenous
peoples.
The conflict between the
indigenous people and the Spaniards
continued for four centuries, and is
still ongoing as disputes over land
ownership continue.
