NEWS
FROM BRUSSELS
Huron County has many holiday activities
As I write this, the rain has arrived
and with the increased temperature,
the depth of the drifts is decreasing
before my eyes. It’s no wonder that
Canadians talk about the weathermore than any other subject. With the passing of Valentine’sDay for another year, the number ofyears lived have increased for Jack
Cardiff, Ken Graber, Kathy Nichol
and Ethan Nichol, my brother Cliff
and me. No one ever forgets our
birthdays.
We have a long weekend coming
up. Family Day is set for Monday
and with a little looking, there is lots
to do if you want to leave home. The
Huron County Museum in Goderich
has a fun day planned. Swimming is
available at the North Huron
Wescast Community ComplexCommunity complex in Wingham.Skating hours are available at ourlocal arenas and for the adventurousthe Mint in Ottawa is offering free
tours if you pre-book. So however
you plan to spend your Family Day,
enjoy your time together.
Funerals this week had us saying
goodbye to two folks who knew how
community needed to be supported.
Kathleen Semple from Grey
Township and Harold Bridge from
our village both were keen
supporters of everything rural. The
two of them, over the past years,
were good examples of how to getpeople together to work for acommon good. Gatherings of anykind were how they saw communityin action. Plowing matches to raise
money for our community centre,
fall fair and Santa Claus parades and
any event that would improve our
place on this earth is where you
would find Harold and Kathleen. So
as we think of them and their
families, we need to consider our
place on earth and follow their
example of thinking of others for the
good of all. Farewell, folks.
Take care of yourself and give
someone a call that you’ve been
meaning to contact, it won’t take
long.
Bye now, Betty G.W.

A NOTE FROM BETTY
By Jo-Ann McDonald
Comrades of Brussels Legion
Branch 218 have been saddened to
hear the new of the passing of
Comrade Harold Bridge. Our
sympathies are extended to his wife
Karen and children, Verne, Mike,
Colleen and Shirley Ann and their
families. A memorial service was
held on Tuesday and Comrades of
the Royal Canadian Legion
conducted a service of
Remembrance at the beginning of
the service.
Harold was an 18-year member of
Branch 218. You always knew when
Harold dropped into the Branch. He
had a big smile, a quick retort and
usually left everyone wondering
what happened. He would help at
the fish fry events whenever his
schedule allowed and was always a
hard worker. Our condolences to his
family at this difficult time.
The Huron County Dairy
Producers held their annual meeting
at the Branch on Wednesday. The
meeting started at 10:30 a.m. and
they broke at noon to enjoy a roast
beef dinner provided by the Branch.
The meeting and guest speakers
resumed following lunch. The
