The following is an aside that
seems to connect with the theme of
that UCW gathering. I attended a
church other than my own this past
Sunday and a quote on the order of
service caught my eye. One of the
things that keeps living on the edge
of Londesborough interesting is the
view. No matter the weather, even
the winter storms, there is something
beautiful to appreciate outside my
windows – a sunset, a rainbow, a falltree, etc. George Washington Carverremarked “I love to think of natureas an unlimited broadcasting station
through which God speaks to us
every hour if only we will tune in”.
“Perseverance”, staying
purposeful and committed, is the
character attribute receiving
attention at Hullett Central Public
School in February. Friday, Feb. 11
will be another spirit day for the
pupils at Hullett. To mark
Valentine’s Day everyone is asked to
wear red and pink.
Mark your calendars now for the
fifth annual community carnival and
auction. This year’s theme for
Thursday, April 21 is “Rockin’ to the
’50s.” Also be considering how you
might contribute to the event.
The village has a new resident.
Macie Lynn arrived in the midst of
the overnight storm Feb. 2. She will
be putting first-time parents, Matt
and Dawn Smith, through their
paces. Interestingly, both sets of
grandparents also live in the village,
Mikey and Teresa Smith and Doug
and Karen Dolmage. A village
welcome to Macie and
congratulations to everyone else.
All of us will remember Macie’s
birthday, Groundhog Day.
February is recognized in America
as National Black History Monthand a news item from last weeknoted that Canada Post has issued astamp featuring Fergie Jenkins, the
first black Canadian professional
baseball player.
With a winter as snowy as ours is
this year, the birds would appreciate
everyone observing National Bird
Feeding Month.
February is the ‘love’ month. Next
Monday is Valentine’s Day. Did you
know that February is also theNational Single and SearchingMonth? Good luck to all of thosepeople. Feb. 16 is National Heart-to-
Heart Day followed on Feb. 17 by
Random Acts of Kindness Day.

The seventh annual Snowarama
for Easter Seals Kids hosted by the
North Huron Trail Groomers and
Wingham Snowmobile Club will
start on Feb. 19 in Londesborough at
Londesborough Community Hall.
Adrian Salverda, representative of
the North Huron Trail Groomers and
chair of the event, stated that
$13,500 was raised through the
event last year, and he hopes to build
on that number as this is the sole
fundraiser for the Easter Seal Kids
in Huron County.
“This is the only fundraiser they
have,” he said. “I really hope the
number goes up.”
Interested participants collect
pledges to raise funds for the group,
which supports children with
disabilities.
While the event has been going on
for more than 25 years in Ontario, it
wasn’t until Salverda approached
Easter Seals and suggested the
fundraiser that it started in Huron
County seven years ago.
Salverda originally started the
event after the birth of his daughter
Marita. Marita was born with a brain
stem ailment, and Easter Seals has
helped the family throughout
Marita’s life.
Salverda’s wife Dorothy stated
that, while things are set up the way
they need to be in their home, it’s
good to know the Easter Seals, and
Snowarama, are still there if they
needed help with big ticket items.
“It’s pretty stable [in our home],”
she said. “We still have the
equipment we need, but other kids
need the money too, so Adrian keeps
doing it.”
Registration for the event begins
at 9 a.m. in Londesborough, and a
breakfast will be served by the
Londesborough Lions.
Participants will travel over 130
kilometres of trail before arriving at
the North Huron Trail Groomers
Club House where a barbecue will
be held in the afternoon
Raffle and 50/50 tickets will be
sold at the event, and draws will be
held in the afternoon at the club
house for door prizes donated by
Hully Gully and Good Choice
Appliances.
Sponsorship spots are still
available for businesses and
corporations.
Participants’ snowmobiles must
be properly identified and tagged
and participants must have trail
permits.
For more information, or to pledge
or sponsor, contact Salverda at 519-
482-9113.
