The Brussels Tykes played in the Wallace Fundays
Tournament over the weekend.
The team’s first game was in Kurtzville against
Monkton. The Bulls came out strong. They had a lot of
time with the puck and drove at the net. The team also
passed well, while Christopher Pennington played well
in net.
The team’s second game was against Woolwich
Green. The team was a little tougher for Brussels and at
times the game was rough, but Brussels persevered and
had plenty of opportunities to put the puck in the net.
The defence played well, forming a solid unit in front
of goalie Lucas Jacklin.
The third game was again Woolwich Blue. Brussels
felt pressured once again, but the Bulls out-skated and
out-shot their competition.
Goals were scored by Jackson McDonald-Inglis,
Matthew McKee, Bennett Smith, Luke Fritz, Pennington
and Dawson Dunbar. Assists were tallied by Aliya
Dauphin, Tyson Fischer, Taylor Lang, Brett
McCutcheon, Joel Nesbit, Colby Nicholson and Kyle
Stevenson.
Brussels Atoms sweep Zurich in best-of-five seriesThe Brussels Atom Bulls sweptZurich on a best-of-five series to winthe WOAA Atom E trophy andthey’ve earned a shot at Bothwell inthe next round of the playoffs.
The Bulls began their series on the
road on Jan. 16 when they travelled
to Zurich to begin their series with
the Thunder. With no scoring in the
first, Zurich was the first to tally at
the 10:51 mark of the second period.
Two minutes later the Bulls tied the
score when Nick McArter scored on
a pass from Noah Terpstra. With
4:16 left in the second Nolan
Johnston scored assisted by Jack
Pipe to take the lead, but with 43
seconds to go in the second period,
Zurich was able to get one by Jarron
Thompson to tie the score. The third
period would solve nothing and it
was going to take overtime to finish
this game. With plenty of chances in
the extra frame by both teams it was
finally Pipe assisted by Avery
McArter with only 43 seconds left
that won the game for the Bulls. This
game was the first overtime of the
year and the boys played well under
pressure and were able to take a
hard-fought road victory home. The next game was set for Jan. 21,but with the weather not co-operating the second game would beplayed on Jan. 22 in Brussels with
the third game on Jan. 23. On
Saturday morning, the Bulls came
out charging with Terpstra scoring
first on a pass from Avery McArter
at 6:58. The Bulls scored three
unanswered goals in the second
period with Terpstra again scoring
assisted by Jacob Roth and Brent
Alexander, then Pipe scoring
assisted by Brett Stevenson, then
Pipe again assisted by Ted Jacklin
and Brent Alexander.
Zurich finally solved Thompson in
the third to break the shutout bid, but
the Bulls stormed back 30 seconds
later to restore the four-goal lead to
make the final score 5-1 to take a 2-
0 lead in the series.
On Sunday afternoon, Zurich was
back and the Bulls wasted little time
getting on the board when 28
seconds in Pipe scored, assisted by
Roth and Chris Hruska. Pipe scored
the second goal assisted by Hudson
Smith and then Pipe completed the
natural hattrick when he scoredassisted by Terpstra and Roth. Onlya single goal was scored in thesecond period when Terpstra scoredunassisted.
The third period was all Brussels
as Pipe scored his fourth goal of the
game, assisted by Stevenson and
Terpstra finished the scoring assisted
by Hruska. The final score was 6-0for Brussels. The Bulls dominated Zurich in allareas of the game from the net outand were able to keep Zurich from
getting any real superb scoring
chances.

in OMHA semi-finals that probably
won’t begin until February. The Bulls will now play someWOAA playoffs as they are in a six-team group with Teeswater, Arran-Elderslie (Paisley), TCDMHA
