Ironmen drop close decision to Mitchell on weekendThe Wingham Ironmen travelled
to Mitchell on Saturday evening and
were handed a 4-3 setback in
overtime.
The Ironmen had already clinched
second place in the Western Junior C
Hockey League as they battled the
third-place Mitchell Hawks.
Wingham was outshot in the contest
38-34.
Penalties hurt the Ironmen as the
Hawks went 3-5 on the powerplay.
The Ironmen were 0-3 with the man
advantage.
Kevin Baetz gave the Hawks a 1-0
lead at 18:35 of the first period with
a powerplay marker.Cory MacDonald tied the game atone at 6:05 of the second period,with help from Graham Ashcroft. A
Baetz powerplay marker at 17:26
gave Mitchell a 2-1 advantage.
At 4:31 of the third period, Aaron
Armstrong evened the score at two.
Wade Stephenson and David Jones
assisted. The Ironmen took the lead
at 10:04 when Chris Corbett scored
with help from Justin Jacklin and
Brett Brophy. Just 49 seconds later,
the Hawks tied the game at three
when Brendan Nicholson scored on
the powerplay.
Just 23 seconds into the overtime
period, Tyler Masson scored to give
Mitchell the 4-3 victory.
The Ironmen play a home-and-home series with the Mount ForestPatriots this weekend. The Ironmen host the Patriots on Friday,beginning at 8 p.m. at the NorthHuron Wescast Community Complex and then travel to MountForest on Saturday for an 8:30 p.m.contest.By Jim BrownThe Citizen
Broomball weekend
Blyth hosted an adult broomball tournament at the Blyth
and District Community Centre. On Saturday the Blyth
Boys Juvenile team, the Renegades, took on the
Hurricanes, with the Hurricanes having the last laugh,

Saugeen Maitland AA
Lightning go to finals
The Saugeen Maitland Midget
AA Lightning qualified for the
Provincial Championships after a
convincing 6-1 victory against the
Stratford Aces last week.
The Lightning won the best-of-
three series winning two games
straight.
Scoring for the Bolts were
Hannah Davidson with two,
Brittany Butcher, Sara Gossell,
Marcie Landman and Laken Smith.
Picking up assists were Dollee
Meigs with two, Nicole Marriage
with two, Brooklyn Irwin, Georgia
Ottewell, Gina Murray, Kelly
Garrow, Smith, Landman, Gossell
and Butcher. Stopping 15 out 16
shots was goaltender, Micaela
Stutzki.
Brussels beats Zurich
Brussels Tykes pull out
win with short bench
The Brussels Atom Bulls were in
action on Friday, Jan. 7 against
Zurich, coming out on top by a score
of 4-2.
Jarren Thompson was great in net,
with help by goals by Jack Pipe and
Noah Terpstra. Assists were tallied
by Avery McArter, Nolan
Johnson, Teddy Jacklin and Ronan
Jaresd.
The Brussels Tyke Bulls were in
Zurich on Jan. 9.
They were only able to dress nine
skaters, but they worked hard and
came out of there with a win.
Goals were scored by Lucas
Jacklin, Tyson Fischer, Taylor Lang,
Joel Nesbit, Colby Nicholson and
Kyle Stevenson. It was also a great
night in net for Christopher
Pennington who only let one goal by
him.
