was shut down early in the
game.
They got behind by four goals and
couldn’t seem to get any momentum
in the game.
They lost the game 4-1. The lone
goal was scored by Mitchell and
assisted by Tiffany Deitner.
After the round-robin play, it was
determined that the girls were to
meet the Mitchell team, who the
girls had just lost to, for the A final.
The team and coaches knew they
would have to put up a better effort ifthey expected to come out with awin.In a fast-paced and thrilling final
game, the two teams fought for a
first goal. Finally, in the second
period, Blyth’s Chalmers squeaked
one by their goalie. In the final
minutes, and with Mitchell’s goalie
pulled, Blyth fought hard to keep
Mitchell from scoring and the game
ended with the 1-0 score. The Blyth
goalie, Chasity Caeser received the
well deserved MVP for the team for
the final game.
Great job girls. They now look
forward to the next tournament in
Alymer in February.
Blyth takes Lucknow tourney
The Blyth Novice Rep Bulldogs
clinched the A Championship last
weekend to bring home the trophy
from the Lucknow Lions
tournament.
The team pulled off three wins
against Lucknow, Ripley and the
final game against Milverton, but it
wasn’t easy.
The team had to play hard to earn
the wins with one game going into
an overtime period and then a
shootout.
Max Newson made some amazing
saves in the net to help bring the
team to victory.
Goals were scored by Dakota
Coultes, Mason Weber, Jason Wilts,
Rylee Chalmers and Tyler Drennan,
with assists going to Kesler Jardin,
Jason Eckert, and Tyler Drennan.

The Wingham Ironmen continued
to strengthen their hold on second
place in the Western Junior C
Hockey League on Friday evening at
the North Huron Wescast
Community Complex by scoring a
well-earned 3-1 decision over the
Mount Forest Patriots.
It took a while for the Ironmen to
get rolling. The first period was
scoreless, although the Patriots
outshot the host Wingham squad,
12-9.
There was no scoring in the
second period until 17:25 when
Dylan Hoffman tallied a goal for
Mount Forest. Wingham held a
slight edge in the shot department,
outshooting the Patriots 9-8.
Tyler Kellum knotted the game at
one at 1:38 of the third period. Adam
Corbett assisted.
Wade Stephenson netted what
proved to be the winning marker at
9:16 as he redirected a shot from the
point by Brett Brophy.
Cory MacDonald then added an
insurance marker at 14:42, with
Jakob Robb earning the assist.
Brandon MacDonald picked up
the win in the Wingham net.
Ironmen coach Chad Haggitt said
it was quite the interesting way to
win the game. He said that during
the second intermission, he told the
players to remain calm. He noted
they had began to panic in the
second period because they were
getting frustrated.
“I told them to play our game” he
said. “I told them to play our game
and things would begin to happen.”
According to Haggitt, the Ironmen
were able to play their game in the
third period instead of the Mount
Forest game. “Our players had a
problem getting going in the game,
but they were able to turn it around
in the third period,” said the coach.
Defenceman Colin Whitfield of
Blyth said it was a tougher game for
the Ironmen than they expected.
“Mount Forest is a hard-working
team and they have some speed,” he
said.
He said the game plan for the
defence was to just get control of the
puck and then get it out across the
blueline. “We just wanted to move
the puck and if we got in trouble
shoot it high off the glass,” he said.
Whitfield said they altered their
game plan in the third period, by
playing the Ironmen game. “We
knew the offence would come if we
could get the first one,” he said. “We
got the first one we got on a roll.”
The Ironmen have just a single
game this week, and it’s on the road.
The Ironmen travel to Mitchell on
Saturday for a 7:15 p.m. contest
against the Hawks.
Ironmen edge out Patriots, maintain second in standings
Crashing the net
The Wingham Ironmen were able to solidify their second place standings in the division with
a win over the Mount Forest Patriots over the weekend. The Ironmen trail the first place 28-
and-2 Walkerton Hawks by eight points, and have played one more game than them. (Jim Brown
