OSAP. The student must have an
affiliation to a Canadian War
Veteran, Ordinary, Life, Associate or
Ladies Auxiliary member of the
R.C.L. Forms and information are
available at the Branch.
The Branch was the venue for the
family and funeral luncheon for
George Blake. Our deepest
sympathies to the Blake family on
their loss. The staff of Linda Bird,
Deb Cann, Jo-Ann McDonald, Neil
McDonald, Charlie Calhoun and
Wanda Walker served the family a
light lunch between the visitations.
The funeral luncheon was served to
over 200 family and friends by a
large group of Comrades from the
Branch. Helping the Branch
included Rick, Neil, Scott, LeeAnn,
Alicia, Jo-Ann, Karin McDonald
and Charlie, Linda Bird, Linda
Meier, Deb Cann, Dianne Machan,
Mabel Glanville, Judy Lee and John
Lowe.
The Friday night suppers will
resume this week and I’m sure
everyone is tired of turkey. This
week for a change for everyone’s
pallet is meatballs and rice.
We are still collecting food bank
donations. The need for help doesn’t
stop and we hope that the spirit of
giving continues into the new year.
Donations can be brought to the
Legion anytime we are open or
when attending any event at the
Branch.
Comrades in hospital include
Leona McDonald and Comrade
Howard Hackwell who has been in
and out again. Comrade Wanda
Walker, Seniors Chairman, tries to
get out and visit our Comrades in
hospital, so be sure to let the Branch
know if a Comrade is ill.
Health Unit expands services for pregnant women
The Huron County Health Unit is
expanding its services to pregnant
women, now with a Pre and Post-
Natal Fitness Specialist on staff in
addition to offering pre-natal
classes.
Laura Smith is also a public health
nurse and says she is excited about
working with pregnant women.
Smith says there’s always
been a stigma associated with
exercise and pregnancy that it’s
unsafe.
“It’s actually the complete
opposite. Research shows the right
physical activity throughout
pregnancy helps ensure healthy
weight gain, helps prevent
gestational diabetes, relieves
pregnancy discomforts like lower
back pain, and gives the mother the
endurance to go through the hardest
workout of her life – labour,” she
said.
Smith’s specialized certification
means she can create safe and
effective physical activity programs
for pregnant women and women
who have just had babies. Smith says
there’s a safe program for all
pregnant women, whether they have
previously exercised or not.
Smith says pregnant women can
call her at the health unit with their
questions about safe exercise. She’s
hoping to offer classes in the
future.

meeting.
Siemon’s motion called for Huron
County Council to “establish a
committee of lower tier and Huron
County representatives and Huron
County staff to investigate the effect
and action that may be taken
concerning low-frequency noise.”
Ryan, however, was not
convinced.
“Things aren’t happening, even
though you said they would,” he
said. “You’re not representing us.”
Seili, however, said that was not
the case. He said that all of the
municipality’s ducks have to be in a
row in order to enter into the legal
defense of a bylaw, where taxpayer
dollars could be at stake.
“I don’t care which two lawyers
are in the room, but one will be for it
and one will be against it, but
everyone will pay,” Seili said. “And
it’s the Huron East ratepayers who
are going to have to pay.”
Councillor Les Falconer said that
no action should be taken until the
end of December. That was the
deadline for other municipalities to
commit financially to the floating of
a bylaw to regulate LFN. At the time
of the meeting, however, no one had
expressed interest.
