Clicking the answer
Blyth Public School’s Grade 7 class got to experiment with a Clicker test on Monday, Jan. 3.
The test, which resembles a gameshow with each student having their own remote to answer
questions with, helps teachers determine which subjects their students have a firm grasp on
and which they should focus on in the future. Shown is Brenden Howson, Jordan Hubbard and
Sven VanHittersum locking in their answers. (Denny Scott photo)
Greeting worshippers at BlythUnited Church on Sunday, Jan. 2were Lori and Brenda Brooks.Ushering were Rob Mason, BrendaBrooks, Cliff Snell and Terry
Richmond. Lloyd Herman was
music director.
Rev. Gary Clark welcomed
everyone to church and those of the
Blyth Legion attending the service.
He drew people’s attention to the
announcements printed in the
bulletin with special attention that
the ladies are starting to make meat
pies again. Turkey pies on Jan. 19
and beef pies on Feb. 2. Please call
Joann McDonald at 519-523-9274 if
you wish to order.
The first carol sang was “Oh
Come All Ye Faithful” followed by
the prayer of approach. Rev. Clark
welcomed Kurt Elliott home safe
and sound. Kurt returned the
Canadian flag to the church that had
been given him to take to
Afghanistan. Everyone joined in the
singing of “O Canada”. The children
were asked to come to the front for
their story time.
Rev. Clark asked them what
happened to the manger this past
week? The answer was baby Jesus.
He then asked them if Jesus stayed
small and in the manger? Their
answer was no, Jesus grew up and
became an adult. Rev. Clark then
asked them how do they treat adults?
Their answer was to treat them
kindly, to do the things they wereasked to do by an adult.Jesus was wise, kind and cared forothers and this is what Jesus wantsus to be. The children went
downstairs for their time of
fellowship and to return for the
serving of communion. The choir
sang the anthem, “Go Tell It On The
Mountain”. The scripture was from
Luke 2: 41-52 read by Thelma
Johnston representing the
Legion.
Rev. Clark’s message to the adults
was “Children grow up and
remember”. Rev. Clark showed a
picture of the horror of a mother
remembering she had left her son at
home from the movie Home Alone.
Parents want their children to grow
up and move out but there is always
feeling, will they remember to makeroom in their lives for their parents.Relationships take work both withour children and others. Our relationship was with Kurt
while he was miles away. We
remembered him in our prayers and
now he is home safe and sound.
When Mary and Joseph missed
Jesus they returned to find Him in
the temple talking with the priests.
The communion table reminds us of
the acceptance that our loves ones
are still with us and bring us together
in life and in death. The next carol
sang was “Oh Little Town of
Bethlehem”. The offering was
received followed by the offertory
prayer and the singing of “We Give
Thee But Thine Own.” The prayer of
dedication was followed by the
prayers for the world and the singingof The Lord’s Prayer. Lois van Vliet,Barb and Terry Richmond andMyrtle Badley served communion tothe congregation and the children
from the Sunday School. The last
hymn was, “In the Bleak Midwinter”
was sung.
Lorna Fraser, the superintendent
of the Sunday School and Candice
Abell-Rinn asked Kurt Elliott to
come up to the front. The Sunday
School children have been talking
about heroes and they presented
Kurt with cards they had made that
morning. The commissioning and
benediction were followed by the
choral response, “Sent Forth By
God’s Blessing.” Everyone was
invited for coffee and treats and to
visit with Kurt.

The BOOK you are writing
(J.R. Miller, “Counsel and Help” 1907)
“You ought to live holy and godly lives.” 2 Peter 3:11
The only way to have a stainless and beautiful year at its close — is to keep the
days, as they pass all pure and sweet, with the loveliness of holy, useful living.
It is thus, in little days – that our years come to us. We have but the one small
fragment to fill and beautify at a time.
The year is a book, and for each day – one fair white page is opened before us.
And we are artists, whose duty is to put something beautiful on the page.
Or we are poets, and are to write some lovely thought, some radiant sentence,
on each leaf as it lies open before us.
“That we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”
