This day recalls sad memories Of a dear One gone to rest, And the ones who think of her ' today Obituaries Thomas Mawhinney Funeral services for Thomas Mawhinney were conducted Monday afternoon from the R. C, Dinney funeral home by Rev. H, J, Mahoney and interment made in the Exeter Cemetery, Mr. Mawhinney was born on a farm on the Goshen Line west of Crediton and spent his entire life in the community previous to moying to Exeter in 1941. His wife, whose maiden name was Mary Ann Haist, predeceas­ ed him four years ago. He was a member of Main Street United Church. Surviving are his three child­ ren, Mrs, Otto Brown, Centralia, Mrs, Arnold Kuntz, Dashwood, and Edgar, at home; two grand­ children, two great grandchild-’ ren and two sisters, Mrs. Wm. Martyn and Mrs. Jas. Lawson. Mrs. Jas. P. Bowey Mrs, James P. Bowey passed away Wednesday at her late residence, Main Street, following an illness that has extended over a number of months. Mrs, Bowey was an active member of the James Street United Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and during the war years was active in the Red Cross work. She was well known and had a host of friends. Mr. and Mrs. Bowey moved to Exeter about 17 years ago from Kippen where they owned a general store. Born near Brucefield, Mrs* Bowey’s maiden name was Catherine C. Thom­ son, daughter of the late James Thomson. Surviving besides her bereaved husband is one sister, Mrs. Arthur McQueen, of Bruce­ field. Resting at th» Hopper- Hockey Funeral Home where service will take place Saturday at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev, H. Snell and assisted by Rev. Mr. Connor, of London, Interment will be in Baird’s Cemetery, Brucefield. Mrs. H. T. Rowe ! Following an illness that has lasted over .a long period of time Mrs. Harry T. Rowe passed away Sunday at her home on Andrew Street. Born south of Exeter on the first farm to be settled in Usborne Township Mrs. Rowe’s maiden name was Meretta May, daughter of ‘ the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas May. She was in her eighty-first year. Deceased was a member of the James Street United Church. She is survived by her ber­ eaved husband and one daugh­ ter, Mrs. Wm. C. Allison, also one brother, Joseph May, of Exeter, now in his eighty-ninth year. The funeral took place Wed­ nesday afternoon conducted by Rev. H. J. Snell and assisted by a nephew, Rev. Russel May, of Arkona. The bearers were Messrs. Wm. and Fred A. .May, J. H. Jones, Hedley .May, Ches­ ter and Cecil Rowe. Attending the funeral from a distance were Mrs. Samuel Rowe and Mrs. Halliday, of '.Galt; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Ford, of London; and Rev. Russel and Mrs. May, of Arkona. Interment was in the Exeter Cemetery. Mrs. Albert Mitchell Mrs. Albert Mitchell passed away in St. Joseph’s Hospital, London, on Wednesday in her seventy-first year. About three months ago Mrs. Mitchell had the misfortune to fracture her hip and was in hospital for some time. On Tuesday she was again taken to the hospital and on Wednesday underwent a- se­ cond operation on her hip and she passed away the same day. Her maiden name was Zeta An­ drew. For many years before coming to Exeter Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell resided on a farm east of Centralia. Deceased was a member of the* James Street United Church. Surviving be­ sides her bereaved husband are a daughter, Mrs. William Hobbs of Thorndale, and a son, clifton, of London. A private funeral service will be held Saturday af­ ternoon at 3:00 p.m, with Rev. H. J. Snell officiating. Inter­ ment will be in Exeter Ceme­ tery. Mr. and Mrs, K. J. Lampman spent Christmas with relatives at Norwich. Dinney, of town, passed away suddenly on Sunday in his sixty-eighth year and his .passing came as a shock to his many friends. Mr, Dinney was born in Stephen Township and for many years .was employed by Mr, R. N. Rowe. At the time of his death he was working with his son, Mr. Robert C. Dinney. He had complained .during the day of not feeling well and passed away shortly after the supper hour. Surviving are his .bereaved widow, whose maiden name was Ida Rowe, two sons, Rowe Din­ ney, of Vancouver; Robert C., of town, and pne daughter (Bar­ bara) Mrs. James W. Low, of Ottawa, who with her husband, was spending the holiday here, also one brother Robert Dinney, of London, The funeral Wednesday after­ noon was conducted by his pastor, Rev, H. J. ,Snell, of James Street United Church, with interment in the Exeter Cemetery. The bearers were Messrs. Clarise Snell, Dr. Stein­ er, A. J. Penhale, Hector Taylor Charles Merrill and Edgai' Fan- son. Relatives were present from London and Galt. F. W. Gladman After practicing law in Exe­ ter and London for the past . fifty-two years, Frederick W, Gladman passed away quietly Sunday evening, December 26 at Victoria Hospital, London. Mr. Gladman came to Exeter from Peterborough, Ont., in 1 897, with his wife, the former Margaret Fowler. With the ex­ ception of the years from 1923 to 1931, he was a resident of Exeter. For over thirty-five years he was in partnership with Judge J. G. S, Stanbury, now of St. Catherines. In 19 4 6 a partner­ ship was formed with Mr. W. G. Cochrane, Mr, 'Gladman was active at his work until September of this year after which he .was confined to his home. For many years he was an active member and elder ,of Caven Presbyterian Church and Sunday School, a ready worker in many community activities including the Exeter School Board. Mr. .Gladman also as­ sisted in improvements made to the Exeter Cemetery. In 1923 Mr. Gladman moved with his family to London and while engaged in law practice there he held the position of deputy city magistrate for sev­ eral years. He was an honorary elder of First St. Andrew's United Church until his death. A native of Lindsay, he was a son of the late ,Mr, an<l Mrs. Thomas Gladman. He received his early education in Peter­ borough, studied law at Os- goode Hall, and was called to the Bar in 1892. He practised law in Peterborough for five ^ears previous zto coming to Exeter.MV. Gladman was predeceased by his daughter, Margaret, the former Mrs. W. A. C. Shepherd, of London, Ont., in 1938 and by his wife in 19 41. Two sisters, Mrs. Peter Kerr, of Moncton, New Brunswick and Mrs. Ar­ thur Morrow, of Toronto, sur­ vive him. For the past few years Mr. Gladman has resided at his home on Albert .Street with his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Sanders and their family. His oldest . son Melville, resides in Hamilton his son Charlie lives in Chatham and Donald is located at Win­ nipeg, Manitoba. Mr. Gladman was a member of the Masonic Order ’for many years. Mr. Miehlhauser had been in Exeter almost a year and was at no time in ill health. He is survived by two sons and two daughters —Edwin, Clifford; Alvin, Han­ over; (Laura) Mrs. Oscar Wen- dorf, Hanover; (Alma) Mrs. Ro­ bert Crawford, Exeter. The fun­ eral took place from the Luther­ an Church, Hanover, on Tuesday afternoon. Interment was in the Hanover Cemetery. • W.O.A.A.
