Mr. Bushel! said he had been ap proached in the matter and on quar rying merchants on the north side of the street, found only one who did r not ,favor the day being observed. ? Reeve Anderson stated that among thosp he had asked on the south side of the street he didn't find anybody r who wanted it. ; Payment of 1936 taxes was report 'd as comparing favorably with other years. In round figures the total levy . was $18,000 with 1935 arrears of $1200. . Advance payments totalled. ' $1500., and collections to December ' I4th, more than $14,000. including, i about $125 of 1935 arrears. New postal regulations have • been received by Postmaster Lindsay, governing holiday hours and delivery. One change the Department has made is in connection with the holi day hours. Hereafter the local office will be open from 8 to 10 a.m. and •from 2.30 to '4-30 pun. on ail statu tory holidays. Another ruling is that municipal weekly half-holidays will no longer be observed by post offices. Official notification has also, been received that rural couriers must make their rounds on hH holid same as on other ’days. This is a ruling which is not to be very popular with rural cour iers. for they are. only human and no doubt appreciate a holiday, as well as anyone else. While the every -day delivery will be appreciated by rural, folk, we question if anyone would object to, missing their . mail for one . day. so that the couriers could enjoy at least either Christmas or New Years as a “day off”. •-■ PROMINENT ORANGEMAN, [.MRS.
