I approach the group and on ex cusing my interruption enquire if this be the Bruce County Picnic. They give me a sinister look and one replies, “Yes, it is just for > Bruce County people.” I soon greet fam iliar faces and. enjoy the meal thor- oughly. Then I return-to ray friends who have so graciously guided my steps aright. They are the. Mathe sons and Martins from Ripley. A Mr:JCrowston (brother of Mrs. Moore- house Mitchell) them. Everyone bears their names and whereabouts on their coat lapels and' Mr. Crowston is quite surprised when I inform him that Langside is practically my home towm.. On a cross examination I admit that I ahi- travelling incognito and that to be mpte expliciti, I am from Grey Ox. That seems to please the old gentle man and then comes the stories about Mrs. Morrison and the old h©- tel and how she hid the whiskey abore "the damper in the stove pipes. But Vancouver bus much. to offer. Stanley Park itself with virgin for est growth, bordered by sunny bea ches—and Pauline Johnston’s tor- famed Swash Rock can hardly be surpassed. And thus I find thous ands picnicking under those tower ing cedars °and drinking of - those natural charms that Stanley Park alone can offe*. Tt is the 29th of July and I have not forgotten that today is the Bruce County Annual Picnic. I hurry from my office as l am inform^ that is me! the whole park appears tobe ptehtekihg and I have much difficul ty in gaining my location. Then I see long tables heavily laden with pies, cakes, sandwiches and all good things to eaL My thoughts go back to pleasant memories of Holyrood and St Helen’s garden parties. But even then I may be mistaken. I must do some scouting and confirm my whereabouts.
