On Thursday evening, Langside school S. S. No. 8, held their Chris- tmas entertainment in the Foresters hall. The program consisted of reck tations by the little folks, monologue ' ,Joan McKinnon; an old time costume-1 drill, choruses, Irish lilt, Hope Walk .solos and duets, pantomimes, dia logues, Fraser Purves,. solo; Miss El • sie Hockley, solo and ji dialogue by young folk of the community “Wait ing for the doctor”, Lunch was serv- . ed by the ladies of the section. The ' rest of the evening was spent in dancing with MacKenzie’s orchestra supplying the music; The teacher, Mr. Graham Piiikney is to be con gratulated on the success of the concert, proceeds amounted to $22. On Friday afternoon, S, S. No. Murray’s school held their Chris tmas entertainment. Mr. Alex Smitjji is to’be congratulated on the fine pro gram his tiny tots gave, goffsisting of recitations, dialogues, songs^ Miss Maimie Purves and Roy Hudson also ” helped with the program. Henderson of “Stratford Normal, spent last week observing and teaching at S. S. The meeting open ed by singing the “Opening Ode”, tof-' . ter which the Lord’s prayer and Creed were repeated in unison. Mrs 1 Wm. MadDonald read .the minutes of Idst meeting and Mrs. A. Little’ gave the treasurer’s report. During the business period, it was decided to make another quilt for some in need.; After singing Christmas carols, the program followed. Miss Laurine Martin gave a recitation; Mrs. Campbell favored the meeting with jH$gome fine violin selections accoinpan- by Miss Blanche McDougal; Mrs. R. Robb gdve a reading; Mrs. H. ■ , With Rev. H. M. Wr.ight as chairman, the pupils of S. S. No. 4, under the.direction, of_their teachers. Miss Sadie McCharles and Miss, Ber- trice McQuillin, presented a splendid entertainment in.. the . Community Hall on Friday evening. The. chorus es, dialogues, pantomimes, duets, etc. were interspersed with impromptu speeches while Mr. . Weatherhead con tributed a song.' U. presented their pageant “Did you know Jesus?”. .Gordon Mil ler took the part, Dioysius, a Greek merchant, who travelling thru Judea seeks to learn something of Jesus of whom he had heaifd. Before the appearance of ^each character who had. known, Jesus, an appropriate picture was thrown on the screen. A. scripture passage read and a hymn sung. The folldwing members^ took, nart: Mary, the mother of Jesus, taken by Mrs. Lorhe Woods; John the Apostle by Cuyler Rama'ge; Martha by Ruth Rdmage: Mary by Isobel Miller; Lazarus by Dick Weather head; Rachel,a little girl by. Marie Swan; Ben Amon, a Samaritan leper by Murray Taylor; Miriam, Jairus daughter by Vera TalnY; David the Robinson read the' Current events; ‘boy who had the few loaves and two Mrs. Carruthers sang a beautiful solopMrs. Chesnut recited “Barnies Cuddle Doon,’’ which, everybody en joyed. Miss Dean McLeod recited a wonderful piece entiled “The Black Lamb” taken from a Christmas story of the Scottish Hills, After a vote of thanks to. the; hostess for her' hospitality, the meeting closed by ' singing the National Anthem. .Refreshments were served and a pleasant; time spent; The January f meeting it to bp at the home.of Mrs. Gilbert Hamilton.
