( A plete without an historical sketch of the past 50 -years, and . on Monday, evening, # in an interesting talk, Dr. G. A. Newton recalled as- many im portant events, as time would per mit. It", was fitting that the Doctor should kbe assigned vthis duty,. ’ for during the 41 years that he has re sided in Lucknow, he has for 40 years been secretary of the church. /.With hifn he had a record book dating back to 1883. In 1884 Rev. G. R‘; TUrk, who will be 79 years of age next June, came to Lucknow as a young man in his 27th year.. Some years before, a union of the Wesleyap-andTNew Connexion Meth odist churches had taken place, and this congregation worshipped in their little church on the corner of Willou- gby and Outram streets, where T0fr. Melvin Orr’S residence now stands. After the present church was built, the forriier place of worship was purchased by the late- Adam Thompson to be used as a blaekr smith and carriage shop. The build ing was moved to main -street and is now Park°r’s Garage. When Rev. X SUCCESS OF UNITED CHURCH GOLDEN JUBILEE EXCEEDED EXPECTIONS OF MOST OPTOMISTIC Without undue pomp or ceremony/ the Lucknow United Church, celebra^ ted its Golden Jubilee .Anniversary on Sunday and Monday, an occasion that was probably the greatest event in the history of the church, since its dedication half a century ago. .
