air who attended the tally. Miss
Douglas pointed out many good
points which were mentioned at
Rally and- all who heard the report
have a good idea . of the ’ work that
was done at the Rally. An invitation
from the Wingham/Y. P. was read,
to be present with them on October
28. It was passed that we should Ac
cept the invitation,. Hymn- 300 was
sung, after which Mr. MacDonald
closed in prayer. ‘

CALLED HERE LAST WEEK
An interesting caller in t^wn on
Friday was Mr. Wm. Morenz, father,
of Howie Morenz, that famed hoc
key player, who rose to great hockey
fame, with the . Montreal Canadians.
Mr. Morenz, who lives in Stratford

operated ft grocery arid dry goods
store. Being ‘ interested in this line
of business he called on a few .of .
the grocerymen here, among them
being Mr. Hill, with’ whom he is
personally acquainted.
Mr. Morenz is an interesting ’cphr

in the mixed Bible class; conducted

in the Orange Hall, and on Sunday
evening at 8.15, Mr. George Lowey

Mrs. John Norris received the
guests and Mrs. Pennington looked
charming in an old fashioned gown
The table was laid in old fashioned
silver arid the good things to eat
were tarts,' lemon biscuits/ johnnie
cake, pancake and doughnuts of the
type used at quilting bees years ago.
.Mrs. J. A. Wilson was very suc
cessful in securing these old silver
dishes and Mrs. Climie and Mrs.
Hanley were in charge of refresh
ments. Mrs. A. Whyte was-the win
ner . of the quilt donated by Mrs.
Harrison. Urie lady called from Tees-
watef and. one of the committee- took
the. guest over to,, meet some ’other
ladies from the same place. No intro
ductions wdre necessary as they had
gone to school together and had not
met, for over 40 years.
These, association gatheririgs are
highly valued and form a meeting
place for old friends. Mrs. Harvey
Kavaher/(of Teeswater) is president
for 1935 and M*s.-W. Marshall (Win
nie Cuyler, Whiteehurch) is secre
tary. . «

Fresh green peas formed part of
Mr.. and Mrs. Bert Ward’s dinner
menu onWednesday. Bert’s -first
patch of peas were a failure and late
in the season he planted a second
crop,, which having escaped, thd hard
frosts of the recent weeks, are now
well podded out and form a tasty
sidedish, compared with the* canned,
product, which most everyone else
must content themselves with, if
they crave peas.

Freak Growths ‘
Each , year the vegetable world
provides its freak growths. In Mac
Donald’s Shoe store there is a po
tato that enters (his class, while last
week, Mrs. /Robert Lyons, ran across
a tomato that was ah oddity. Both
arc1" rough and not uniform, appear
ing as/ if a whole grdu^ of potatoes
and tomatdes, iri’ the 2nd case, had-
grown, together into a. -distorted
vegetable.

Rebekah auspices. Tri. spite of a
small attendance, an enjoyable time
was spent. Mrs. Harold Johnston and

winners at euchre, which was fol
lowed by lunch, and a dance. Music
