' . One of the chief factors in Mr. SpQtton’s . defeat was the swing to Liberalism of the ", Conservative stronghold in Goderich. In: that town Mr. Deachman received a majority of 76 votes. , . . - In West Wawanosh the popularity .of the twe candidates was practical­ ly etjual with the South end voting Spottonvand the north end strongly Deachman. Makes Plans For Remembrance Day Service Members Will Sell Poppies—-Cleared $24.00 At Fall Fair Booth Necessary arrangements in con­ nection With Remembrance Day, were planned at the October ineet- ing of the Lucknow Women’s Insti­ tute held at the home of Mrs. Ira Campbell on Friday afternoon. The sale ^f poppies will this year be con­ ducted by members of the Institute rather than by children, as previous­ ly has been the custom. Mfs. Clarke, Mrs. Garniss and Mrs. Orr were ap­ pointed a committee to arrange de­ tails •; for a Remembrance Day vice and to purchase a wreath to be placed at the Cenotaph. Lucknow electors polled slightly more. than five-sixths of the total eligible vote here on Monday; when 572 ballots, one' a spoiled/ one, were cast at the three, divisions out of a possible 660. The village ran ' true to form, giving the Liberal candidate, a. majority of 156 votes. Monday was an ideal day for get­ ting the electors out, , and the vote here was one of the heaviest ever, polled. Mr. W. J. Todd, who-has beep in poor health for some time,' was taken to the polling boothiin a> whee ' chair to cast his ballot. ARRANGEMENTS COMPLETE FOR PLOWING MATCH Popular Rural Event To Be Staged At Foster Moffat’s Farm-Entic-—; With favorable weather Liext Tuesday,. October 22nd,. South Bruce Plowing Match gives promises of being well attended ami the events keenly contested. The .match this year takes place in Kinloss, on the farm of Foster G. Moffat, adjoining Langside school. Competitions get underway at 9 a.m» Eight classes are open to plowmen which includes a list of some 28 ’ special prizes. ( Those - intending ,to plow should notify the secretary at least three days before the match in order that sufficient ground may be staked. Anyone, outside a ten mile radius, requiring a, team should apply by the end of the week to Mr. Moffat. Lunch wvill be served to all plowmen. SOLOMON'S GREENHOUSE .FATHER DIES SUDDENLY Mrs. Richard* Webstei? received word, of the' death of her father, Mr. James Gives, which occurred sud­ denly in- Galt on Friday. The news came as a distinct shock to Mrs. Webster, who not many hours pre­ vious had returned frdm .Galt where she visited her father, leaving in his usual health. Taylot, the building until recently .operated as the Lee Hotel. Mr. Fisher plans to overhaul the building, to. provide comfortable and first class accomo­ dation for the travelling public. Mr. Fisher, is district supervisor of the Sovereign Life. Assurance 'Company; with Lucknow being in his territory. He will coritiiiue in this capacity and also conduct the hotel business, with the assistance of Mrs. Fisher, and othets.
