A. wide range of activities with Thorton of Teeswater much good accomplished, was reported at the annual meeting of SputhBrucQ District Women’s Institute held in the'Town Hall,..Teeswater with about 125 members of the different branches present. The district president, Mrs. Aimer Ackert of Holyrood presided. The financial statement for' the year.were presented by the secretary treasurer t Mrs; Temple Cl,arke~of Lucknow. Total. receipts .amounted to $1133.73 with . an expenditure v of $908.86 and a balance oh hand in the •district, of $224.87;.. Native, Dies In West McLean lived at >11 times quietly and without show. His chief ana overwhelming interest was the edu­ cation and training of his family. His interest in pubjic affairs, great at all times, was confined to that of a pri­ vate citizen.* Besides his widow he is survived by»seven sons and' five dau­ ghters (his death making the first break in. a: large .family) Mrs. Estell Bell, Vermilion, Alta; Mrs. Edwin Anderson of Polly, Sask; D.-_Alex­ ander of Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. John Morrison of Chicago, Il|j' Allen G. Yorkton, Sask,; Dr. Charles ofNold- fast, 'Sask.; Stahley I. of Dauphin, Man.; Gordon*R, of Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Weldon Geldart of Mildred, Sask.; Miss Elsie of Vancouver, R. C;; J. Ross of Ottawa, Ont;’ Calvin E. of i Winnipeg, Man. Four brothers and three sisters also survive. Campbell Of Luck­ now. • ' ‘ / - ■*— . John McLean died at his home at Arran, Sask. On Sunday, June 2nd. in his 77th year. Born on a farm near Lucknow, Ont. June 14th, 1858 Mr. McLean went west first in 1885. to teach' school near Portage La Prairie, Mani Staying there only a year he Went to Indian Head, Sask.-, to teach an Indian Mission‘ School under the auspices of the Presbyterian Church. -It was while ■ /engaged there, that he. went to Foyt William/. Ont. to bo married to Mary McDonald of Kin­ cardine,. Ont. who-survives Jiim. •Leaving the Mission. School for the larger field of Public School teaching Mr. McLean taught at Edgley. Es- tevan and Pheasant Forks.. .. -; In 1900 he forsook his chosen pro­ fession to go -into ; ^usinesk as pro­ prietor of a gOjieral store and flour mill at .Ethelibert-,, Man;,; where 'he lived for many years, establishing a branch business at Arraii, Sask, in 1911 and subsequently moving with his 'family to that point.
