The C.G.LT. met in the
Sunday school room of Knox
United Church December 2 with
15 girls present.
The election of officers was
held with the following results;
President, Shelley Grange;
vice-president, Linda Sproul;
secretary, Lorraine Chamney;
treasurer, Wanda Plaetzer.
Plans were made to hold the
Vesper Service on December 22.
Sherry Plaetzer received the
offering and it was dedicated.
• Scripture lesson was read by
Lynn Turner and Jayne Arthur
led in prayer.
The girls spent the remainder
of the evening , decorating
candles.
HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY
Twinkling lights on Christmas
trees, red poinsettias, green holly
and red berries decorated the
Auburn Community Memorial
Hall last Friday evening for the
annual family night of the
Horticultural Society when the
members of the Women's
Institute and their families were
guests.
Over 90 persons sat down td
the delicious pot-luck
smorgasbord dinner.- Christmas
carols were sung and Ken Scott
of Blyth entertained with several
musical and vocal numbers.
Mrs. Norman McDowell,
chairman of the nominating
committee presented the slate of
officers which were accepted as
read.
Twenty-six members of the
Women's Auxiliary to Clinton
Public Hospital attended a
pot-luck luncheon last week at
the country home of Mrs. Paul
Walden in Bayfield.
During the brief business
session, with Mrs. R. U.
MacLean presiding, Mrs. J. G.
Wright reported that the
September penny sale produced
a net profit of $823.
The buying committee was
authorized to purchase colorful,
printed flannelette to make two
dozen sheets for the children's
ward. Mrs. Brock Olde presented
data on new drapes for the west
wing. The auxiliary has not
decided to undertake to supply
the drapes and will continue the
discussion at its next meeting.
Mrs. E. W. Ryan, convener of
the hospital cart which is placed
at the main entrance, said it is
well-stocked for Christmas for
the convenience of visitors who
want to buy flowers for patients
they are visiting,
Tray favors will be provided
for patients on Christmas Day
by the Londesboro Women's
Institute and on New Year's Day
by the CFB Clinton Protestant
Chapel Guild. Mrs. Ken Wood,
project convener, said each
patient in hospital on Christmas
Day will receive a gift from the
auxiliary.
The nominating committee,
headed by Mrs. Douglas Bartliff,
will report at the annual meeting
on Jan. 5. Committee members
include Mrs. E. ,Beecher Menzies
and Mrs. Ted, Davies.
In a raffle conducted by Mrs.
Davies, Miss Kathleen Elliott,
nursing supervisor, won a doll
with complete wardrobe.

WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
Mr. and Mrs. Andrew
Kirkconnell were pleasantly
surprised last Sunday when
members of their family
gathered to observe their 42nd
wedding anniversary.
The family brought the dinner
and Mrs. Louis Blake and Harold
Kirkconnell presented them with
a pole lamp.
Those present were Mr. and
Mrs. Louis Blake, Faye and Mary
Anne of Brussels and Mr. and
Mrs. Harold Kirkconnell, Donny,
Ronny and Greg of Goderich.
COOKING SCHOOL
The Main Dish Makes the
Meal was the theme of the
Cooking School held last
Thursday in the Auburn
Community Memorial Hall.
Mrs. Eldon McLennan and
Mrs. Donald Cartwright were the
leaders of this course sponsored
by the Home Economics Branch
of the Department of
Agriculture and Food.
Interesting dishes were
demonstrated and cooked and
then sampled such as eggs and
chips casserole, a fish fillet with
topping, corned beef and
cabbage and split pea soup using
, the stock off the corn beef.
Those taking the course were
Mrs. Gordon Taylor, Mrs.
Robert Phillips, Mrs. Ed Davies,
Mrs. Roy Daer, Mrs. Lawrence
Plaetzer, Mrs. Frank Raithby,
Mrs. Norman McDowell, Mrs.
Thomas Haggitt, Mrs. Robert
Turner, Mrs. Torrance Tabb,
Mrs. Donald Haines, Mrs. Bert
Craig, Mrs. Tom Lawlor and Mrs.
W. Bradnock.
A club achievement day will
be held at the December meeting
of the Women's Institute when
many dishes will be served to the
members.

John Hamilton and Miss Junia
Corcoran of Toronto spent the
weekend with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Ben Hamilton.
Mrs. Bert Craig spent last
week in Montreal and visited
with Mrs. Noah Gratton and
daughter Miss Marjorie:
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Haines
and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth
McDougall attended the
assessors' banquet at the Legion
Hall in Goderich last Friday
evening.
The Christmas Communion
was observed last Sunday at
Knox Presbyterian Church.
Wayne Scott and Eric Scott were
received into the membership on
profession of their faith.
Mrs, Gordon TaylOr
introduced the newcomers and
welcomed them to the
community.
Ross Robinson played a
mouthorgan solo accompanied
by Mrs. Robert Phillips on the
Piano. ,
Pastor L. Fry of Knox United
Church brought greetings and
gave a short inspiring Christmas
message. William J. Craig,
chairman of the Village Trustees,
brought greetings and thanked
both the Horticulture Society
and .the Women's Institute for
their community work.
Lucky door prizes went to
Keith Hallam, Mrs. Towe and
Torrance Tabb.
The speaker of the evening,
William L. Craig, showed many
colorful pictures of Northern
Ontario which were taken on
vacation trips as well as many
local scenes. Mrs. Arthur Grange
thanked Mr. Craig.

bride, and Miss Joanne Lawrence
'of Mitchell, sister of the groom,
were dressed alike in floor-length
A-line gowns with lace yoke and
bell sleeves. They carried baskets
of gold and bronze mums.
The groomsman was Eugene
Lawrence of London and the
ushers were Kenneth Daer of
Wingham, Edward Lawrence of
London and Lorne Daer of
Stratford,
Pink and white streamers and
wedding bells decorated the
Auburn Community Hall where
the reception was held following
the ceremony. The bridal party
were assisted in receiving the
guests by the bride's mother
' wearing a dress of green fortrel
and a corsage of yellow roses
and by the groom's mother
wearing a coat and dress

The groom is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Frederick M. Lawrence
of Mitchell and the bride is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bert E.
Daer, RR 1, Auburn.
The double-ring ceremony
was performed by Rev. Harold
Snell of London and Pastor A.
Fry of Auburn.
Traditional wedding music
was played by Mrs. Donald Kai
of Oakville who accompanied
Misses Nancy Anderson and
Betty Moss when they sang "0
Day of Gladness," "The Lord's
Prayer," and "This Is Our Day."
• Given in marriage by her
father, the bride looked lovely in
a floor-length gown of white
lagoda featuring a high neckline
with a yolk of chantilly lace
forming a long cathedral' train
from the shoulders. Her
headpiece was bouffant tulle
gathered with clusters of white
flowers with mother, of, pearl
centres. She carried 'abouquet of
talisman rpses, small white,!roses
and golden sten-is Of "wheat.
Mrs. Leonard Day of Guelph
was matron of honour wearing a
floor-length gown with
rusty-brown peau de sole bodice
and orange-ice peau de point
skirt. The empire styled gown
was outlined at waistline with
white daisies. She carried a
bouquet of gold and bronze
mums.
Bridesmaids were Miss Mary'
Ellen Lawrence of London,
sister of the groom and Mrs.
Kenneth Daer. of Clinton,
sister-in-law of the bride. Miss
Pauline Lawrence of. Mitchell,
