WHITE GIFT 'SEFIVIP
The annual White Gift .service
was observed last Sunday at
Knox United Church with a
large attendance.
Pastor Alfred Fry was in
charge of the service assisted by
Raymond Hildebrand and
Sherry Plaetzer who read the
scripture reading and the
responsive reading.
The White Gifts were received
by Misses Nancy Anderson. and
Shelley Grange and placed in the
white manger.
The offering was received by
Misses Gail Seers, Marie
Plunkett, Murray 'Wightrnan and
Douglas Derain,
Organist, Mrs, N. Wightman,
was assisted by Miss Jennifer
Grange on the piano. Special
music was given by the Junior
choir.
WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
Citizenship and Education
was the topic at the November
meeting of the Auburn Women's
Institute held in the Community
Memorial Hall.
Convener, Mrs. Donald
Cartwright was in charge of the
topic which had been prepared
by Mrs. Oliver Anderson. She
compared education today to
education a few years ago and
stated that now there are no
promotions or failures, just
progress reports.
In closing she stated that
responsible citizens care about
education for adults and
children in our community life.
She passed around illustrations
of the junior work in some
elementary schools today.
The meeting was in the
charge of the president, Mrs.
Frank Raithby.
The minutes were adopted as
read by the secretary, Mrs. Bert
Craig. Mrs. Donald Haines
reported on the county banquet
and Mrs. Gordon Taylor on the
tablecloths.
It was decided to make a
donation of $200 to the
Community Hall Board towards
the new microphone and speaker
installed in the hall.

Mrs. Eldon McLennan
reported on the short course
"The Main Dish Makes the
Meal" and plans were made to
hold it in the hall December 4 at
9.30 p.m.
Mrs. Donald Haines gave an
excellent report on the area
convention held recently at St.
Thomas.
Mrs. Gordon R. Taylor
extended an invitation from the
Horticultural Society to the
members and their families to
join the family night
smorgasbord supper December 5
at 7 p.m.
Mrs. Thomas Haggitt gave a
reading and a record sung by
Mrs. Gordon Taylor was played.
The collection was received
by Mrs. Lawrence Plaetzer and
Mrs, Len Archallabault and the
pennies for Friendship by
Marilyn Archambault.
Roll call was answered by
each member telling what the
Women's Institute can do to
make better citizens in the
community,
Gifts and donations were also
received for the Huron County
Children's Aid Society.
Lunch was served by Mrs.
Gordon Taylor and Mrs. Charles
Scott. The gift for the lucky cup
went to Mrs. Charles Straughan.

weeks as a patient in Victoria
Hospital, London.

Mrs. Edgar Lawson is a,
patient in Clinton Hospital. We
wish her a speedy recovery.
Mrs. Gordon Taylor returned
home last week from a visit in
Chatham with her daughter, Mrs.
Ronald Rathwell. Mr. Rathwell,
Michael and Janice.
Ronald Arthur of Toronto
spent a few days last week with
his parents, Mr, and Mrs. Keith
Arthur, Wayne and, Philip.
Mr. and Mrs. Oscar de Boer,
Raymond and Cathy spend the
weekend at Strathroy with Mr.
and Mrs. Henry Linker and
family.
Jack J. Lane, 40, of St.
Columban, was named business
administrator for the
Huron-Perth Separate School
system last • week. He replaces
Paul Franck who resigned. Mr,
Lane is married to the former
Mary Catherine Rowland of St.
Columban. They have six
children. The new business
administrator, currently
employed by a Stratford
industry, is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Vincent Lane of RR 5
Seaforth.

district, died in Clinton Public
Hospital Nov, -18. after a
tiwp,,week illness. She was. 91
years old..
The former Elizabeth Jane
Dale, she was born en June 2,
1878, daughter of the late jOhe
And Mary Dale, She was married
in Hullett Township to John
Graham who died in 190.. She
was a member of Ontario Street
United Church.
Survivors include a sister,
Mrs. William (Marionette) Ross,
of Clinton and three brothers,
Jack of Tnekersinith Township;
Orville of Seaforth and Harold
of Clinton.
The funeral was held last
Friday afternoon at Beattie
Funeral Home, Clinton, with the
Rev. H. W. Wonfor officiating.
Burial was in Clinton Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Steven
Brown, Ken Stewart, Graham
Kerr, Stewart Elgin and. Edward
Dale.
FlowerbearerS were Keith
Keys and Kurt Vanreisen.
MRS. LAURA EASOM
Mrs. David Easom, 87, of
Clinton died at Clinton Public
Hospital Nov. 19 after a
two-week illness.
She was the former Laura
Frances Oakes, daughter of the
late Henry and Amelia Oakes
and was horn in Goderich
Township on May 5, 1882. She
was married on June 24, 1903,
and lived with her husband in
Goderich Township until 1951
and later in Clinton. Mr. Easom
died three years ago,
Mrs. Easom was a member of
Ontario Street United Church.
She is survived by a son, Roy,
of Myth; two daughters, Mrs,
Jelin (Pearl) McFarlane of
Clinton and Mrs. Keith
(Gertrude) Feagan of Goderich;
a brother, Herbert. Oakes of
Clinton; 10 grandchildren and
16 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held last
Saturday afternoon at Ball
Funeral Home, Clinton, with the
Rev. H. W. Wonfor of Ontario
Street Church officiating. Burial
was in Clinton Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Carman
Tebbutt, Irvine Tebbutt, Fred
Elliott, George Wright, George
Turner and Bert Lyon.
Flowerbearers were Ronnie
Feagan and Larry Selves,
UCW annual here
The annual meeting of the
Huron-Perth United Church
Women Presbyterial will be held
in Wesley-Willis United Church
in January, it was announced at
the annual fall executive meeting
in Sebringville last week. More
than 50 women attended the
session.

Fidelity group, Separate business
meetings were then held by the
two units.
The women were Asked to
bring their money aprons to the
nex t meeting, when the roll call
will be answered with a verse
containing the word joy, Many
of the ladies concluded the
Clinton meeting with a drive to
the Hohnesville bazaar.

The- evening unit of the
Ontario Street United Church
Women opened its November
meeting with a song about the
UCW using the tune of "The Old
Grey Mare."
Lois Elliott was in charge of
the devotions in the absence of
Mary East. The study book was
taken by 'Olive Johnson, Hazel
Matherson and Mary Trick.
The Dec. 8 meeting will be
the Christmas meeting. Dime
bells are to be turned in then. A
contest was held and lunch
served by group 7.
