There's only one way to handle the
Datsun 1600 automatic.
Briskly.
When you want to pass on the
freeway, jusfswing out, tramp on the
gas .and your Datsun will jump to it.
You see, the Datslin 1600 is not like
most small automatics. Small cars
generally don't have the engine
capacity to handle an automatic
transmission properly. And most of
them only have a 2-speed
transmission, so you don't get any
pick-up at all.
What you do get is a gutless wonder.
Datsun 1600 is different.
It's got guts. 96 hp, and one of the
best power/weight ratios in its class.
A silky three (count 'em, three) speed
Borg-Warner transmission. 100 mph
performance. Datsun 1600 has poke.
And with all that poke you get
contoured bucket seats, front discs,
all independent suspension, choice
Of two doors, four doors or a
wagon all the extras, all the
luxuries and aft the performance
of the standard Datsun 1600.
lust no gearshift. If you like a
gearshift, you can get one for about
$200 less than the automatic
option. But if you don't, put your
foot down and demand a
Datsun 1600 automatic.
And then you can really put your

not most of the badges were

Scouting from 'its inception
onwards indicate.
The two aspects of Scouting
which, rightly, have always been
most distinctive were the
expectation that the promise or
"word" of a Scout was to be
regarded more highly than that
of an ordinary boy: the idea of
"Scout's honor," and the daily
Good Turn. The first, it is to be 0
feared, has been often
di sregarded; the second
lampooned consistently but
after the first few generations of
Scouts, more honored in the

that a Scout "Good Turn" is
now unusual enough to furnish
material for news stories in the
annual Boy Scout Week.

The Age limits for joining are
from eight to 10 years old
although boys already in Wolf

can be taken up to 11 yearS
The regular time for Meetings
is open for discussion, to be
determined according to the
wishes of the parents and the
nature of the program, 4:30
p.m. being the alternative time.
Parents are asked particularly
to indicate their wishes as to
time by coming in peison or
sending a note to the Pack
Scouter. Parents are also urged
not to encourage their sons to
commit themselves too deeply
to leisure activities through the
winter and spring bnt to help
them to, in the words of the
Wolf Cub Promise, "do their
best" in whatever they take up.
Conflicts that might arise in the
spring or early summer as the
year's program of Cubbing
reaches its climax in the
awarding of earned badges
should be pointed out to them
as the younger mind is often
inclined to overlook the future
in preoccupation with the
present.
Lastly it should be
remembered that the annual

It is, I think, matter of
congratulation for Clinton that
as the Scout and Wolf Cub
programs become open to wider
choice so that they are merely
one form of activity existing in a
community which, for its size,
provides super-abundant choices
of leisure time occupations to its
youth: skating, Little League,
music, library, Sunday School
programs in keeping with
modern needs and tastes, and a
wide variety of school and extra
mural activities that there is no
attempt to influence the choice
of young people among all of
the options open to them and
that stress is put on doing well
what each chooses rather than
attempting to distort individual
choice by placing an irrelevant
or improper value on one
organization over another.
Scouting and Cubbing have
always been a voluntary
movement, not only in the sense
that the leaderd work long hours
week by week without any pay,
with little recognition, buying
uniforms and paying expenses
out of their own pockets but
more especially that it is a free
choice of each boy whether he
joins or not and it is, and has
been, the responsibility of the
leader to make the consequence
of his choice clear to him before
he does join and make his formal
promise. Many boys this year are
to be congratulated that they
have made a choice — in the best
Wolf Cub tradition — not to
continue in Cubbing but rather
