Rake pie 45 to 50 minutes or
until custard is set, apples are
fork-tender, and crust is golden
brown. Cool on rack about 11/2 '
hours.
APPLE BREAD
1/4 cup butter
2/3 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 eupscsifted all-purpose flour
1 teasploon baiting powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt
11/2 cups grated apple
1/2 cup raisins
Cream butter and sugar. Beat
'in eggs one at a time, Sift dry
ingredients. Add alternately with
apple to creamed mixture. Add
raisins. Turn into greased loaf
pan (9 x 5 inches) and bake at
350 deg. F until a skewer comes
out clean, about one hour.

granted permission to its board
of arbitrators to secure
professional help if needed, in
carrying out its duties of
assessing assets and liabilities of
sixteen boards that combined on
January 1, 1969, to form the
Huron-Perth Board.
Custodians are to be
reimbursed for tending to their
schools on the night of
Hallowe'en at the rate of $2.50
per hour.
Revised schedule for

A report on the provincial
convention of the Hospital
Auxiliaries Association in
Toronto last month was
presented by Mrs. R. U.
MacLean at the meeting of the
Women's Auxiliary to Clinton
Public Hospital last week.
Mrs. MacLean, president of
the local auxiliary, attended the
Toronto convention which was
held in conjunction with the
59th annual convention of the
Ontario Hospital Association.
The 17 members at last
week's meeting approved several
recommendations made by the
bursary committee which is
headed by Mrs. Brock Olde.
The bursary for registered
nurses will continue to be $200,
but will be paid in two yearly
instalments rather than being
spread over three years.
Mrs. MacLean and Mrs. Ted
Davies represented the auxiliary
at the opening of the.
Perth-Huron School of Nursing
in Stratford last week.
The buying committee was
directed to consider purchase of
16 pairs of drapes for the west
wing of the hospital and two
dozen crib sheets of printed
flannelette for the children's
ward. The auxiliary authorized
payment of a $19.27 bill for 12
washable stuffed toys purchased
recently for the ward,
Mrs. Paul Walden has offered
her farm home for the Dec. 1
meeting and pot-luck luncheon.
Mrs. Orval Warner, social
convenor, said members are
welcome to bring guests. The

prevent discoloration, slice the
apples into a' weak brine
consisting of 1 top, salt to 1
tivort of water.

1 unbaked 9-inch pie shell
11/4 cups milk
1/4 ctip"grantilated sugar
3/4 ton. mace
14 tsp, salt
4 tsp. all-purpose flour
3 eggs
about 3 medium apples
2 tbsp. apricot jam
1 tsp. water
Make up pie shell from
packaged mix or favorite recipe.
In small bowl, beat milk well
with sugar, mace, salt, flour and
eggs. Set oven at 375 deg. F.
Core, pare, then slice apples into
rings about 1/8-inch thick.
Arrange apple rings, in layers, in
the pie shell. Pour on custard
mixture; then, with pastry
