Adastral Park news
Clinton News-Record,, Thursday, October 23, 1969 5A
It's "Royal" time again.
Already final preparations are
underway for this year's showing
of what the world has to offer in
agriculture, livestock, food,
sport and the thrills of the Royal
Horse Show.
Since its inception the Royal
has played an unique role in the
social, agricultural and business
life of.Canada. It has provided a
meeting place at which the
people of the North American
continent and overseas can meet
on common ground and discuss
subjects of mutual interest.
The outstanding success of
last year's very successful show
has imposed a challenge. A
challenge that the Royal has
been happy to accept with the
result that the presentation this
year will meet new heights in
providing first class
entertainment.
Every year the Royal has
witnessed increased interest and
participation on the part of
visitors from the United States,
South America and Europe. This
year there is even greater
enthusiasm from abroad.
Livestock breeders from Mexico,
Japan, the United States and
Great Britain will• be on hand in
unprecedented numbers.
Opening on Friday, Nov. 14,
through to Nov. 22, there will be
something for every member of
the family.
This year, for the first time,
the Royal Horse Show will
present performances on Sunday
afternoon and evening on Nov.
16, Here visitors to this popular
event will have the opportunity
to sea the finest equestrian
6,x:its in the world. Teams from
ilexico, the United States, the
Argentine and Canada will
'compete NI the coveted awards.
There will be disciplined
jumpers, high stepping show
horses and numerous other
events to hold the interest of the
viewer.
There will be something of
interest to everyone with
particular attention being paid
to affairs of interest to women.
Do not be misled. The Royal
is not purely a livestock show.
All segments of industry and
commerce as well as agriculture
play an important part.
Food up, farms down
In 1936 an Ontario farmer
produced enough food for
himself and 11 other people. In
1960 it was 25 people, and in
1968, 41 people. During this
same time the number of
farmers decreased by 40 percent.
Land Ranger' Lt. Mrs. Heather
Delcellier and Air Ranger Capt.
Mrs. Anne Belliveau,
Jo Ann Carey is now in charge
of transportation and
equipment. The new fund-raising
chairman is Irene Schwab.
The 18 participating girls held
an Oct. 8 bowling night to which
the Venturers were invited.
The Venturers last week
invited the Rangers on a tour of
the base projection room. Sgt.
Slater conducted the trip.
The Rangers are planning to
hold a Hallowe'e party.
A chief concern of the
Rangers is community service
and becoming involved in the
community as a whole. As part
of this service, 'the Rangers are
on "emergency stand-by" in case
anyone should need unexpected
assistange.
The women's auxiliary held a
rummage sale Oct. 18. Organized
by Mrs. Lorraine Strang, it was a
success.

Province checks
on wage scale
in restaurants
The Ontario Labour
Department is concentrating
employment standards
inspections this month on the
hotel, restaurant and related
industries to make sure
employers and employees are
aware of a new minimum wage.
The new minimum of $1.30
hourly became effective Oct. 1
for the hotel, motel, resort,
restaurant, tavern and taxi
businesses. It and other
improved employment standards
became effective in other
business and industry last Jan. 1.
Labour Minister Dalton Bales
said the shift in emphasis would
be for a few weeks only. After
that, employment standards
officers would return to the.
normal schedule of investigating
complaints and carrying out
general spot checks.
Mr. Bales said he decided to
concentrate on the low-wage
service industries after
consultation with Earl Howard,
Director of the Department's
Employment Standards Branch.
",In the, ,cgurse,, of the past
nine months we have found," he
said, "that most employers
willingly meet their obligations
under the new employment
standards legislation.
"But, despite our efforts to
publicize the legislation, we find
that many employers and
employees are not aware of it
and because of this we are
increasing our efforts in this • field.
"We have found that if there
are cases of negligence it is
better to find them quickly as
this prevents employers having
to pay substantial amounts
because all adjustments ar'
retroactive."

Hunt blinds are
on Lake Huron
BY G. R, HARMS
Conservation Officer
The Lake jiuron shore
fronting Bruce County has been
one of the main flyways. for
diving ducks coming from the
north and headed for Lake Erie
and points south, These birds
incl ude scaup (bluebills),
buffleheads, goldeneyes and
mergansers.
Until recently very few
hunters took advantage of this
great flight of late migrants
along the Lake Huron shore.
They travelled quite unmolested
until arriving at Lake Erie where
the surplus was cropped.
Hunters in Bruce County and
visitors to the county have
recently caught on to the flight$
and in the past couple of years
makeshift blinds have been used
on most of the points jutting out
into the lake.
The Department of Lands and
Forests this year constructed
five cement block blinds on
crown land points and invites
hunters to come to Bruce
County and hunt "divers" in
November from our free blinds.
Three of the new blinds are
on the three main points at
Inverhuron Provincial Park and
the other two are situated on
McGregor Point just south of.
the Town of Port Elgin.
The blinds are still in the
experimental stage and we
would appreciate being notified
of successful hunts from them.
If they prove successful, no
, doubt many more of the points
on Lake Huron will be sporting
cement block blinds in future
years,
Pheasant shoot
near Goderich
A controlled pheasant shoot
bring held this year at Point
Farms Provincial Park four miles
north of Goderich on Highway
21 will end Nov. 29.
The park was opened to
hunting last Saturday. Hunting
hours are from 9 a.m. to noon
and 1 to 5 p.m. each day,
excluding Sundays.
The project, is being run by
the fish, wildlife and parks staff
of the Lake Huron District of
the Dept. of Lands and Forests
to provide hunting of pheasant
in the marginal range.
Hunters will be admitted to
the park beginning at 8:15 a.m.
each hunting day on a
first-come, first-served basis.
Only 50 hunters will be allowed
in the area at any one time. No
reservations will be accepted.
Before being admitted to the
park, hunters are required to
deposit his valid resident hunting
license or a valid non-resident
$21, $36 or $101 hunting
license, depending on his
resident status, to the officer in
charge. Hunters receive a permit
authorizing their hunting for
that day along with a sheet of
instructions outlining the do's
and don'ts while in the park.
Although not mandatory, it is
highly recommended that
hunting dogs be used, as huntu
success has proven to be much
greater.
There is no charge for hunting
in the park but the free permit
as previously mentioned is
required.
