Steady rain all Sunday afternoon cut the number of competitors, but did not stop these marksmen
from trying for the Huron county trap shooting championship at Kippen Gun Clqb on Highway 4,
.John Anderson of RR 2, l-lensall, earned the trophy by tallying 93 out Of a possible 1.00 hits.
William Stewart of Goderich, last year's champion, was runner-up with a score of 91 this time,
followed by George Hamm of Blyth with 87, Lloyd Vernier of Hensel, with 85 and Jack Gilbert of
Goderich with 85 also. Each entrant had 50 shots at 16 yards and 50 at 23 yds. Mr. Anderson hit

Mr.: and Mrs, A, L. Lawson
and babe of Windsor, returned
home • on Saturday after a week's
visit with Mrs. Lawson's parents..
The main topics for the farmer
are, picking apples, threshing
beans and plowing. It seems that
the beans are betting a poorer
crop each year. Four years ago
they brought 31i! bus. to the acre,
three. years ago about 30, last
year 22 and this year about 12.
Miss Maud Pickard of
Holmesville is spending a few
weeks at Mr. A. J. Courtice's.
CHSS team
wins on TV
A team from Central Huron
Secondary School, competing on
the "Reach For the Top"
program on CKNX-TV,
Wingham, defeated Shelburne
High School last week. "
In a one-sided' battle, CHSS
led 85-40 at "half-time and
continued to press in the second
half for a final tally of 175-85.
Julie Walden ran up an
impressive lead by
demonstrating an exceptional
knowledge of folk singers. Joan
Aggerhoim, Martha Newland and
Janet Mason covered other fields
and by half-time it was obvious
that CHSS had a team to beat.
Judy Finley is the team's
substitute and acts as its
scorekeeper when she is not
called on to compete. The girls
will probably meet West Hill of
Owen Sound in the next game -
a battle of the sexes with an
all-boy team which beat Mount
Forest 300.55 in a match
televised last week. •
The Clinton-Shelburne game
will be shown Saturday evening
at six o'clock.

home of Mr, and Mrs. Glen
Carter,
The Fothergill family spent
Thanksgiving at the home of
Mrs. Fothergill's sister, Mrs. Glen
Bender of Palmerston.
Mrs. Edna Holmes and Mrs.
GraceRobertson of Dresden
spent a few days recently with
the former's sisters, Mrs. Hesk,
Mrs. Durnin and Mrs. Gaunt.
The Explorers elected Colleen
Carter chief for the coming year;
secretary, Cathy Peel; treasurer,
Kathy Lyon and other officers,
Joan Hunking, Donna Reid and
Kathy Hunking.
The seventh meeting of the
4-H girls' Fancy Stitches was
opened with the pledge: Roll call
was answered by nine members.
The girls have shown good talent
with their embroidery.
This Sunday the service will
change to standard time and will
begin at 10:30 for the winter
months.
The UCW held its fall
Thanksgiving service on 'Monday
evening with guests from Blyth,
Walton and Ontario Street
Church, Clinton. Mrs. Gourley
conducted the devotional
period.' Betty Snell contributed a
lovely vocal number. Mr. Beese
of Niagara Falls was introduced
by his sister, Mrs. Heckendorn,
and showed many beautiful
slides of nature's wonderland
which were much appreciated by
all. A social hour was enjoyed.
At the close the evening unit
served a tasty lunch.
The October meeting of the Hospital was discussed and the
Ladies' Auxiliary to the Royal
Canadian Legion was held on
Oct. 14 with the president, Mrs.
Dennis Bisback, in charge.
Three new members were
installed by the president: Alice
Brochu, Ann Des Brisay and Pat
Walsh.
