CHSS team wins on TV A team from Central Huron Secondary School, competing on the "Reach For the Top" program on CKNX-TV, Wingham, defeated Shelburne High School last week. " In a one-sided' battle, CHSS led 85-40 at "half-time and continued to press in the second half for a final tally of 175-85. Julie Walden ran up an impressive lead by demonstrating an exceptional knowledge of folk singers. Joan Aggerhoim, Martha Newland and Janet Mason covered other fields and by half-time it was obvious that CHSS had a team to beat. Judy Finley is the team's substitute and acts as its scorekeeper when she is not called on to compete. BERT ALLEN Mr. and Mrs. John Armstrong and Mr. and Mrs. Will Leman of Brampton spent Thanksgiving Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Ken Armstrong and family of Stratford and on Monday a family gathering was held at the home of Mr, and Mrs. Glen Carter, The Fothergill family spent Thanksgiving at the home of Mrs. Fothergill's sister, Mrs. Glen Bender of Palmerston. Mrs. Edna Holmes and Mrs. GraceRobertson of Dresden spent a few days recently with the former's sisters, Mrs. Hesk, Mrs. Durnin and Mrs. Gaunt. The Explorers elected Colleen Carter chief for the coming year; secretary, Cathy Peel; treasurer, Kathy Lyon and other officers, Joan Hunking, Donna Reid and Kathy Hunking. The seventh meeting of the 4-H girls' Fancy Stitches was opened with the pledge: Roll call was answered by nine members. The girls have shown good talent with their embroidery. This Sunday the service will change to standard time and will begin at 10:30 for the winter months. The UCW held its fall Thanksgiving service on 'Monday evening with guests from Blyth, Walton and Ontario Street Church, Clinton. Mrs. Gourley conducted the devotional period.' Betty Snell contributed a lovely vocal number. Mr. Beese of Niagara Falls was introduced by his sister, Mrs. Heckendorn, and showed many beautiful slides of nature's wonderland which were much appreciated by all. A social hour was enjoyed. At the close the evening unit served a tasty lunch. The October meeting of the Hospital was discussed and the Ladies' Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion was held on Oct. 14 with the president, Mrs. Dennis Bisback, in charge. Three new members were installed by the president: Alice Brochu, Ann Des Brisay and Pat Walsh.
