DAVID R. COOPER

year has been deferred, he
noted, including the concrete
deck for the new Bentniller
bridge.
Mr. Berry spoke briefly on
interest rates which he called "a
matter of great concern when
one realizes the prime borrowing
rate at the present time is 8.5
per cent." HurOn is now paying
interest on $1,2 million, he said.
The county does have a
working capital reserve of
$50,000 which is available as
ready cash without borrowing,
he explained, recommending
that the working capital account
be increased next year to reduce
borrowing and the resulting
interest cost.
In passing, Mr. Berry
mentioned that the average cost
per delegate to conventions this
year is running at $165.08.
"This does not seem
extravagant," he said.

He also said ¤ that if , all
municipalities had paid their
memberships at the start of the
year, the council wouldn't have
spent the summer in financial
trouble.
The directors agreed that
MODA should put emphasis on
getting corporate members in,
the association. Mr. Phillips was
interviewed on his arrival two
weeks.'ago and was quoted as
favoring such a move. Before
taking the MODA post, Mr.
Phillips was assistant manager of
the association surrounding
Ottawa and there about 300
corporations and individuals
belong to the council. _ MODA
has about 20 corporate members 14
this year.
