Clinton News-Record, 1969-09-25, Page 5Not just another beautiful body,
but a car with brains.
Every 1970 Volkswagen Fastback
has a computer in it.
It's the brains behind our revolu-
tionary fuel injection system. (A system
that eliminates carburetor problems
like icing, stalling and flooding, because
it eliminates the carburetor,)
So it's a toss up whether the real
beauty of the 1970 Fastback is on the
outside—or on the inside.

The veterinary services
boratory at Centralia will bring
new and important service to
inners in the midwestem
Intario area. The department
heady has such diagnostic
acilities at Ridgetown, Guelph,
Cemptville, Brighton and New
Askeard. When the former
Dommonwealth Air Training
Station at Centralia was closed
Several years ago, the
Department of Agriculture and
Food moved in to establish the
College of Agricultural
Technology there, and last year
the first class of graduating
students received their diplomas.
Courses are offered in
agriculture and home economics,
and the course of study for
Animal Health Technicians;
formerly conducted at
Ridgetown, under the direction
of Dr. G. R. Doidge, was
transferred to the Centralia
campus this past summer.
The new veterinary services
laboratory at Centralia results
from conversion of the former
Air Force • base hospital into a
highly satisfactory facility. The
installation of necessary
equipment has been proceeding
on schedule, and it is expected
that the laboratory will be open
for service to the public late in
October or early November.
When William A. ' Stewart,
agriculture minister, announced
the department's intention to
develop this new laboratory at
Centralia in December of 1968,
he said, "The establishment of
these facilities is in response to a
growing demand for diagnostic
and laboratory facilities to serve
this general area. When it is
considered that the eight
counties of Bruce, Elgin, Huron,
Middlesex, Norfolk, Oxford,

one third of the province's
cattle, hogs and poultry, one
half .of the turkeys, And one fifth
of the horses and sheep, then it
must be recognized that this area
is vital to the (agricultural)
industry."
Dr. Pridham graduated from
Mitchell District High School
and the Ontario Veterinary
College. He worked for a short
time in large animal practice in
St. Mary's as assistant to Dr. G.
A. Schiedel and returned to the
OVC to undertake postgraduate
studies, leading to a master's
degree. During this period he
took charge of the fur-bearing
animal diseases laboratory at the
college, where he conducted
diagnostic services, teaching and
research.
From 1962 to 1964 Dr.
Pridham studied pathology and
virology at the University of
POTATO AN.P TOMATO.

well with a potato and tomato

meal.
Connecticut, with particular
emphasis on poultry pathology.
He returned to the Ontario
Veterinary College until joining
the Pfizer Company Limited as a
field veterinarian,
He joined the staff of the
Veterinary Services Branch of
the Ontario Department of
Agriculture and Food in October
1968, and has been assistant
head at the Regional Veterinary
Services Laboratory at
Kemptviile.
While Dr. Pridham is
recognized as one of Canada's
leading specialists in fur-bearing
animals and poultry, he has also
had wide experience in dealing
with the' treatment of all
animals, large and small. His
specialties will be particularly
welcomed in midwestern
Ontario area where the poultry
industry is of major importance,
and the province's . mink
ranching industry is centred.
