I OPP reports I
Edward J. (Ted) Roberts, 47,
of RR 2, Kippen, was injured
when the car he was driving left
Sider oad 5, Tuckersmith
Township, about a mile east of
Hensall, and struck a tree last
Friday afternoon. The car was
demolished.
He was first taken to South
Huron Hospital by ambulance
then to St: Joseph's Hospital,
London. He suffered a
punctured lung, four broken
ribs, and a deep cut on his arm
which required 24 stitches.
The accident happened when
the car struck a pothole in the
road and something broke in the
steering mechanism, causing him
to lose control of the car. Mr.
Roberts is employed with the
Bell Telephone in Clinton and is
president 'of the Hensall Legion
Branch 468.
Mr. Roberts was taken to
South Huron Hospital in Exeter
by ambulance for treatment of
broken ribs and an arm cut.
In other accidents investigated
by provincial police from the
Goderich detachment, Harry
John Chambers of RR ;
Goderich, was involved in a
single-car accident, Sept, 7 on
Highway 21 south of Country
Road 25. There was an
estimated $700 damage to the
vehicle he was driving.
On Tuesday, Sept. 9 on
Highway 8 east of Goderich,
Vincent Leo Young of Goderich
was involved in a single-car
accident resulting in $500
damage to the vehicle he was
driving.
In the period from Sept. 7 to
Sept. 13, the detachment
investigated two thefts, one
break and enter incident and
seven other criminal offenses.
There were 13 traffic charges
laid, four criminal charges and
three liquor charges, two of
them involving minors.
In this week's report, the
detachment notes that formerly
the Ontario Highway Traffic Act
required motorists to stop as,
close as possible to the right side
of the road when an ambulance,
fire or police vehicle was
sounding a bell or siren.
A new amendment to the act,
now in effect, requires cars to
stop for ambulance, fire or
police vehicles with a red
flashing light on the roof.
