(Ted) Roberts, 47, of RR 2, Kippen, was injured when the car he was driving left Sider oad 5, Tuckersmith Township, about a mile east of Hensall, and struck a tree last Friday afternoon. The car was demolished. He was first taken to South Huron Hospital by ambulance then to St: Joseph's Hospital, London. He suffered a punctured lung, four broken ribs, and a deep cut on his arm which required 24 stitches. The accident happened when the car struck a pothole in the road and something broke in the steering mechanism, causing him to lose control of the car. Mr. Roberts is employed with the Bell Telephone in Clinton and is president 'of the Hensall Legion Branch 468. Mr. Roberts was taken to South Huron Hospital in Exeter by ambulance for treatment of broken ribs and an arm cut. In other accidents investigated by provincial police from the Goderich detachment, Harry John Chambers of RR ; Goderich, was involved in a single-car accident, Sept, 7 on Highway 21 south of Country Road 25. There was an estimated $700 damage to the vehicle he was driving. On Tuesday, Sept. 9 on Highway 8 east of Goderich, Vincent Leo Young of Goderich was involved in a single-car accident resulting in $500 damage to the vehicle he was driving. In the period from Sept. 7 to Sept. 13, the detachment investigated two thefts, one break and enter incident and seven other criminal offenses. There were 13 traffic charges laid, four criminal charges and three liquor charges, two of them involving minors. In this week's report, the detachment notes that formerly the Ontario Highway Traffic Act required motorists to stop as, close as possible to the right side of the road when an ambulance, fire or police vehicle was sounding a bell or siren. A new amendment to the act, now in effect, requires cars to stop for ambulance, fire or police vehicles with a red flashing light on the roof. CLINTON 482-9525ii::. angigiiiinnignagrV: The Brucefield Bombers, a ladies softball team, defeated Milverton girls by a score of 12-6 in the fourth game of a best of seven playoff series for the Western Ontario Athletic Association championship last Sunday afternoon in Hensall Community Park. The Brucefield team now trails Milverton 3-1 in the finals. Brucefield opened the scoring in the first inning Sunday when the team took a 1-0 lead after three consecutive hits by Sandra Graham, Eleanor Shields and Joyce Ferguson scored a run. In the third inning, Milverton scored three runs to take a 3-1 lead. Runs were scored on four hits, one walk and one error. At that point in the game, Betty Graham came in and relieved the Brucefield starting pitcher, Barb Swan. Brucefield came back in its half of the third with four big runs to take a 5-3 lead. Diane Carter started it all off with a home run to left field. The three other runs in the inning were all unearned as Milverton made four big errors. In the fifth, Milverton narrowed the score to 5-4, but in the Brucefield bottom half of the fifth inning, they scored two more runs on three hits by Sandra Graham, Joyce Ferguson and Gail Daer. In the sixth, Brucefield added to its total to make it 10-4 on one hit by Diane Carter and on three more Milverton errors. Again in the eighth inning, Brucefield scored two more runs. This time, Joyce Ferguson came through with the key hit to drive in the two runs. Milverton rounded out the scoring in the ninth inning, scoring two runs to make the final score 12-6. Brucefield had a total of nine hits with Joyce Ferguson having three singles, leading all hitters. Diane Carter had a homer and a single; Sandra Graham, two singles and a single each by Eleanor Shields and Gail Daer. Betty Graham, who relieved Barb Swan in the third inning received credit for the win. Milverton aided Brucefield's win by making 10 errors, while Brucefield made only five errors. In Milverton last Friday, the host team defeated Brucefield girls by a score of 6-3. Brucefield opened the scoring in the first inning with two runs, but after that it was all 11/Riverton — one run in the third, three in the fourth and two more in the fifth. Brucefield closed the scoring with one in the eighth. The leading hitters for Brucefield in this game were Sandra Graham with a double and two singles and one hit each by Eleanor Shields, Joyce Neilans and Betty Dalrymple.
