The Brucefield Bombers, a
women's softball club, lost the
first two matches in a best of
seven WOAA championship final
against Milverton last weekend.
The first -game was at the
Hensall community ball park last
Friday night and the score was
9-4 in favor of the Milverton
team. A 5-3 tally ended the
second game which was played
in Milverton Sunday afternoon.
The two teams face one
another again tomorrow at 8
p.m. in Milverton and then in
Hensall on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
Brucefield opened the scoring
in the first inning Friday when
Betty Dalrymple singled, stole
second and scored on a single by
Sandra Graham.
In the second inning,
Milverton took a 2-1 lead on two
hits, a walk and one Brucefield
error.
The lead was increased to 7-1
in the top of the fifth on four
hits and an error. Brucefield
came back in the bottom of that
inning to shorten the span to
.7-4. Eleanor Shields, Joyce
Ferguson and Sandra Graham
singled. Milverton added two
insurance runs in the eighth to
hang on for the eventual 9-4
win.
Leading hitters for Brucefield
were Sandra Graham and
Eleanor Shields with two hits
apiece, and one each by Joyce
Ferguson, Marion McNutt and
Betty Dalrymple. Betty Graham
pitched for Brucefield and
suffered the defeat. At the end
of the game, there was a draw
for a $10 prize. It was won by
Mrs. Mike Connolly of Kippen.

and Mel Graham.
Last Sunday in Milverton, the
host team opened the scoring in
inning four with four big runs.
They scored their runs on two
hits and three Brucefield errors.
In the sixth, Brucefield
picked up one run from a single
by Jo-Ann Aldwinckle, but
Milverton added another run in
their half of the sixth to increase
their lead to 5-1.
In the eighth, Brucefield
narrowed the lead by chalking
up two more runs with the aid
of three consecutive hits from
the bats of Diane Carter, Sandra
Graham and Eleanor Shields.
Milverton hung onto its lead,
earning a two-game edge in the
series.

in Sat. exhibition- Brucefield ladies seek softball championship An exhibition game will be
played at 5 p.m. Saturday in the
Clinton Community Park
between the Midgets, OBA
semi-finalists, and the
Intermediate Colts, a team now
in the OBA finals.
A draw will be held for the
share-the-wealth, tickets sold by
the Lions Midget club and local
Lions members.
The Midgets were ousted
from playoffs last Sunday when
Amherstburg won 6-1 in the
third game of a best of three
series.
