The continued recession of the bluffs and banks has become a serious problem for everyone along the lake, said members of the association at the 22nd annual meeting held at the park recently. Two items of routine maintenance to be taken care of soon include cleaning the drains and trimming the cedars, the latter a job done every three years, the members were told. Canon F. H. Paull, association president, called attention to the' improvements carried out under the directors's supervision in recent years. The projects -- each of which involved considerable expense included planting the cedar hedge, erecting rail fence, planting trees and shrubs, installing barriers and placing benches. By its work, said Canon Paull, the association has created • _ a very pretty aridpie-a:4E1f place which has increased in popularity and become an asset to the village. It was reported that the rummage sale, convened by Mrs. William Tillmann and Mrs. Hugh Gregory, was very successful. The members voted to donate $50 to the Community Centre. There was a good attendance of both summer and year-round residents at the meeting which welcomed two new members into the association. Mr. Merrill to remove it now, A motion was passed (moved by Councillor Baker and seconded by Councillor Snell) that Mr. Merrill "be allowed to keep his parking lot on public property.," Councillor Odclleifson voted against the motion. The reeve said he hoped "council realized what they had voted on." The village clerk, Gordon Graham, reported on the issuing of building permits and trailers licences and mentioned one trailer that has no licence yet. He said he felt that people should be made to get permits and licences before going ahead. Council agreed that village ratepayers with trailers can continue to store them beside their own homes, but it has no wish to see them used in lieu of houses. A motion was carried that the occupant "be advised that he has 39 days to move his trailer." In committee reports, Coun. Merner asked council to authorize that a survey be made of Lidderdale Street extension with the purpose of lowering the water table in Blair's swamp; it was approved. Coun. Baker reported on the disgraceful conditions of the Community Centre washrooms. Councillor Snell said that the committee pay someone to clean these facilities but that he would make further inquiries. Councillor Merner said that until the centre could afford the service of a full time janitor it was the responsibility of everyone using the building. The treasurer's report for 1968, audited by Roy Pitzsimnioni, showed receipts of $862.24, broken down as follows: memberships, $29; band concert, $59; rummage sale, $607.49 and interest on investments and bank deposits, $166.75. Disbursements of $850.44 included: lighting, $464.63; electricity, $104.38; donation of Goderich Kinsmen Band , $45; donation to Bayfield Art Council, $15; rent to community centre, $20; maintenance supplies and wages, . $178.65 and Miscellaneous, $22.78. The balance as of last Jan. 1 was $11.88. ART EXHIBIT Mr. Jock McLaren's exhibition of paintings depicting Bayfield and area drew an enthusiastic crowd of over 300 people to the Community Centre Auditorium last Wednesday and Thursday. Many of the patrons were surprised and delighted to view their homes and (stores on canvas. Mr. McLaren said he painted and framed the 30 canvases since last February. Mrs. George Hopson, president of the Bayfield Senior Citizens Club, asked if chairs will be available at the club's next meeting on Sept. 3. She said that at their last meeting members had to return home for chairs, Councillor Merner assured that there would be adequate seating for the meeting. Ross Merrill joined council to discuss a letter he received concerning the installation of a parking area he made on village property, adjoining his lot. A somewhat heated discussion, among council members, ensued. Councillor Merner wanted to know who authorized the letter to be sent. He said that at the last meeting it was agreed that no further parking lots be allowed on village property. He also said that he felt it was discriminatory to send the letter _ to Mr. Merrill because there are a number of ratepayers who have • similarly appropriated village property for this purpose. Councillor Baker said that he was willing to make a motion that Mr. Merrill be allowed to retain his narking lot on village property. Councillor Odclleifson said that he was willing to make a motion that all ratepayers with similar parking areas he requested to remove them. Here, Reeve McFadden asked Mr. Merrill as a personal favour to remove the offending area, and told Council that he would be glad when this year is over.
