News -Record, Thursday, June 19, 1969 Auburn MFRS, WES BRADNOCK ST..11,►IARII<'S ACW The Anglican Church Women of St. Mark's Cherph held its meeting with a goodttendance, Mrs. John Daer was in charge. • Mrs. George Schneider led in prayers. Mrs. Thomas Haggitt read the missionary theme. Mrs. Thomas Johnston gave a reading on friendship. The .topic of the evening, The Diocese of Huron, was given by Mrs. Andrew Kirkconnell. Mrs. Ed Davies gave a reading. The minutes were accepted as read by the secretary, Mrs. John Daer. The financial statement was given by the treasurer, Mrs, Andrew Kirkconnell, The roll call was answered by naming a parable. A special thanks was extended to Bob Daer for keeping the church lawn so well mowed. A thank -you note was read from Mrs. Robert J. Phillips. All present were sorry to learn of Larry Glasgow's illness. He was a valued member of St. Mark's when he was manager of the local bank. A get -well card was signed by all present and sent to Mrs. Sam Daer who is a patient in Clinton Hospital. Mrs. Fordyce Clark gave a report on the Deanery meeting held recently in Goderich and Mrs. George Schneider invited the Guild to meet at her home in July. Mrs. Gordon Taylor was the organist for the meeting. KNOX WMS The Women's Missionary Society of Knox Presbyterian Church held for its June meeting at the home of Mrs. Ed Davies with a good attendance. The president, , Mrs. Wilfred Sanderson, opened with the call to worship followed by prayer.' A hymn, was sung to harp accompaniment played by Mrs. Robert • J, Phillips. The devotional period was led by Mrs. Roy Daer. The minutes were read by the. secretary, Mrs. Alvin Leatherland. Mrs. Donald Haines explained the interdenominational project. Mrs. Ed Davies gave a reading. The mission study was taken by Mrs. Frank Raithby. The offering was received and dedicated by Mrs. Daer. The roll .call was answered by each naming a type of missionary work she Could do. LADIES AID Mrs. Major Youngblut presided for the Ladies Aid meeting of Knox Presbyterian Church. The minutes were read by Mrs. Roy Daer who also gave the financial statement. Thank -you notes were read and plans were made to cater to a wedding in July. Lunch was served by Mrs. Davies. LEAVING AUBURN . Sixty friends and neighbours of Mrs, Bert Doran honored her last week with a surprise afternoon tea on her lawn. Tea was served by Mrs. William L. Craig and Mrs. Arthur Grange assisted by other neighbours. During the tea, Mrs. Albert McFarlane expressed regret at Mrs. Doran's departure from the village. On behalf of those present, Mrs. Charles Straughan presented Mrs. Doran with a crystal bowl and matching candlestick holders. Mrs. Doran and son, Michael, will leave soon for their new home at ; Meaford where Mr. Doran has had a position since last year. Personals Lloyd, Currell of Agincourt and Peter Brown of Windsor were recent guests with Mr, and. Mrs. Maitland Allen. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Arthur and Greg visited on Sunday with her uncle in Brantford hospital, John MacKay of Sault Ste, Marie arrived in the village last Saturday for summer work. J. J, Robertson is visiting with his daughter, Mrs, Harold Kitchen, and Mr, Kitchen in Hamilton. Mrs. Bert Doran and son Michael spent the week -end -in Toronto visiting with her daughters, Carol and Maureen Doran. Mr. and Mrs. John Robinson of Port Credit were recent visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Phillips, Mr. and Mrs. James Bennett of Kitchener visited last Saturday with their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. William Straughan. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Breen and Philip of Goderich visited Last Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Arthur and family. Miss Frances Houston left with three friends from London for a motor trip to the West Coast. Mrs. Ralph Munro and Mrs. Bert Craig returned Last Wednesday from a three-week trip through Europe and the British Isles. Miss Margaret Sanderson of London spent the week -end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Sanderson. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Robinson of Toronto spent the week -end with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Ross Robinson. Mr. and Mrs. James HembIy of Atwood visited last Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Davies. fKIPPEN ON' MRS. NPRMAN LONG UNITED CHVRCH WOMEN Mrs, H. Binnendyk presented. the .devotional for the Kippen 17nited Church Women's recent meeting. Mrs. Robert Erie, president, was in .charge of the business period which included a decision to donate $25 to Camp Bimini. The S.S, picnic will be held at Seaforth Lions Park Sunday, It was announced. The September meeting will be held at the Blue Water Rest Home, Zurich. Mrs. W. Consitt showed a film on a missionary doctor. Mrs. Robert Kinsman .and Mrs. Keith Lovell were hostesses and served refreshments. PERSONALS John Thomson, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Storey, and uncle, Bill Storey, of Seaforth, left Tuesday by plane for a vacation in Winnipeg. Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Mallis and Mr. and Mrs. J. Bernard of Ailsa Craig motored on Wednesday of last week to holiday a week with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Burke of Apaley, Ontario, on the Kawartha Lakes. Archie Hoggarth, who suffered a heart attack about 11 days ago, was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, London. Beatrice Thomson, along with pupils of grade 6, 7 and 8 of Hensall Public School, will leave Wednesday by bus for Detroit, Michigan, and will tour the Museum, the Zoo and Greenville. Robert Thomson, her grandfather, a patient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter, the past six weeks, is reported to be making better progress and hopes to be discharged soon. Mrs. Edward Wise, President of the Anglican Church Women of St. James Church, Middleton, was hostess for the regular meeting held ,lune 11. Present were nine members and four visitors (all of whom are former members) and the rector, the Rev. E. J. B. Harrison, Mrs, Wise opened the meeting with a poem. Mr, Harrison took charge of the worship service. Mrs, Keith Miller presented the secretary's and treasurer's reports. Thank you letters were received from the Rev. John, Graham of Wallacetown, Mrs, J. R. Middleton and the Vestry clerk of St. James on behalf of the Wardens and Rector, An invitation was accepted to attend the joint meeting and tea in Trinity Church, Bayfield today. Mrs. Edward Wise gave an account of the Spring Session of the Deanery of Huron, held in St, George's Church, Goderich last week. Mrs. Jack Cole contributed a reading. The highlight of the meeting was Mrs, Fred Middleton's very interesting account of a trip to England, Mrs. Middleton expressed thanks that she and her husband had been able to undertake this trip to Europe and to celebrate their 50th anniversary yesterday. On behalf of all present, Mrs. Wise, expressed a warm vote of thanks for a most delightful travel gue. Mr. Harrison closed the meeting with prayer after which the hostess assisted by Mrs. Jaek. Cole served a delicious lunch. Mrs. David Deenes, Mrs. Edward Wise, Mrs. Roy Wise and Mrs. Don Midddleton ;attended. the Spring Session of the Deanery of Huron- held in zGoderick.. They also attended the Harrison Reunion on Saturday in Seaforth. Mrs. Beth Dutton had the pleasure of attending a bridal shower . at the home of .Mrs. Maynard Corrie, in honour of Miss Gwendolyn C. Davies, B.A, of Waterloo. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ferguson of Levack visited with their cousins, Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Dutton, last week. Miss Marguerite MacDonald and Mrs. Pearl Case of London called on relatives in the area last Sunday. Clinton personal Sgt. and Mrs. Aussie Partridge, stationed in Germany the past four and a half years, visited with Mrs. Partridge's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles McKeever of Clinton before leaving for their new home in Edmonton, Alberta.
