the council is "indebted" to the
agricultural society and said the
society, headed by James Snell,
is to be commended for the
show put on for the community.

Pond is problem
A natural pond north of
Princess Street and east of
William Street, between - Central
Huron Secondary * School and
houses on William Street, is
again the subject of complaint,
the Clinton Town Council
learned Monday.
Neighboring homeowners are
worried about the depth creating
a hazard to children and are
annoyed by mosquitos breeding
in the pond, Councillor Harold
Lobb said as he urged some
action to remedy the situation.
The upshot of a short
discussion was the appointment
of five councillors - Cameron
Proctor, Gord Lawson, Ted
McCullough, Reeve James
Armstrong and Frank Cook - to
study the matter and return it
with recommendations, It was
• suggested that the men meet
with , the county's sanitary
engineer to seek his advice.
The committee was asked also
to check on ownership of the
land because, as Mayor Donald
E. Symons remarked, "If it is
not solely our responsibility, if it
is that of the ratepayers also,
then they should be drawn into
any study of the probiems.
Coun. Norman Livermore
noted that other ponds exist in
town, including one on East
Street and another behind the
old Canada Packers plant
recently occupied by Fabian
Furniture Manufacturing Co. "If
we fix one," said Mr. Livermore,
"the others will complain too."
Truscott parole delayed
Officials at Collins Bay
Penetentiary reported
Wednesday June 11, the
National Parole Board has
reserved its 4ecision on an
application from convicted
murderer Steven Truscott.
No reason was given for the
decision, and no new decision
date was set. June 11 was the
earliest possible date the 24
year-old youth, could have been
paroled from pe ne ten tiary.
Truscott was 14 When sentenced
in a Goderich court, to be
hanged for the murder of 12
year old Lynn Harper of
Clinton, whose body was found
near Clinton i Ti June of 1959.
The sentence was later
commuted to life imprisonment.
Truscott has always denied
committing the crime and
supporters succeeded in having
the case sent to the Supreme
Court of Canada in 1966 for a
reference. The court ruled that it
would have upheld the
conviction.
If the board rejects parole,
Trnscott cannot make another
application for two years. If it
recommends parole, .the
recommendation must go to the
Federal Government for
approval or rejection.
NON-FARM WORK
In 1966, the last census year,
Canadian farm operators
contributed 23,000,000 days of
work to non-farm industries.
