BRADNOCK i HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY Mrs. William Klie of Hanover, director for District No. 8 of the Horticultural Societies of Ontario was guest speaker at the lune meeting of the Auburn Horticultural Society held in the Community Memorial Hall last week. ' The president, Mrs. Gordon Taylor, was in charge of the meeting, with Miss Nancy Anderson at the piano. The minutes were read by Mrs. W. Bradnock in the absence of the secretary, Mrs. Bert Craig. Mrs. Bradnock presented the financial statement. It was decided to send a car to the Ontario convention in Hamilton. Mrs. Gordon Taylor, Mrs. Bert Craig and Mrs. Ed Davies will attend. . A solo was sung by Miss Nancy Anderson, accompanied. by Miss Betty Moss. The roll call was answered by a • poem or a verse about a flower. Mrs. Frank Raithby introduced Mrs. Klie who spoke on the horticultural society and brought greetings: She also showed pictures of a trip to California and Vancouver. Each member brought a floral arrangement and the prize winners were Mrs. Ed Davies, Mrs. Russel Brindley and Mrs. Gordon Taylor. Lunch was served by Mrs. Thomas Haggitt and Mrs. Arthur Grange. WALKERBURN CLUB The Walkerburn Club met for its monthly meeting at the home of Mrs. Ronald Gross with an excellent attendance. The president, Mrs. Ted Hunking, was in the chair. Prayer was led by Mrs. Lloyd Penfound: .. The minutes were read by the secretary, Mrs: Elliott Lapp, Mrs. • Walter Cunningham gave the financial statement and thank -you notes were read. Invitations to the Londesboro and Auburn Women's Institutes were accepted. The roll call was answered by • giving plants and slips for the penny sale. The prize donated by Mrs. Leonard Archambault was won by Mrs. 'Guy Cunningham. It was decided to hold the June meeting in the evening and Mrs. Lorne Hunking invited the club to meet at her home. The election of officers will be held and fees will be collected. Mrs. Lloyd Penfound and Mrs. Carmen Gross will be the lunch committee. The president conducted the plant sale and everyone went home with something for the garden or house. The program committee was composed of Mrs. Lloyd Penfound and Mrs. Carmen Gross who gave readings and conducted quizzes and con tests. A delicious lunch was served by the hostesses, Mrs. George Schneider and Mrs. James Jackson. SAMUEL J. F. CAVES Funeral services were held Monday, at the William Stiles Funeral dome, auburn, for Samuel J.. Caves who died in the Clinton Hospital after a long illness. 4 He was born in 1896 in Ireland and was the son of the late James Caves and Margaret Eccles. In 1945 he was married to Roxy Flewelling of London who survives and also .one son, Richard, of London. He was a machine mechanic and lived in Blyth for four years before coming four years ago to the Auburn district. He was a member ;of . the Church of England Burial took place at Blyth Union cemetery. Rodgers, pallbearers were William Keith Rodgers, Emmerson Rodgers, Archie Montgomery, Len Roney and Kenneth Campbell. PERSONALS Mrs. Edna Sippell and Mrs. Edith Grover of Stratford visited last Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Davies. The Misses Jean Houston and Jean Jamieson of Toronto spent the weekend with their sister, Miss Frances Houston. Miss Barbara Sanderson of TorontoSpent' the weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Sanderson. • Mrs. Rose Herman returned to her home in Tavistock after visiting with relatives here for a couple of weeks. Mrs. Albert Doerr of Streetsville spent the weekend with her friends, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Davies. Mrs. Ray LaVigne of Windsor returned to her home after a couple of weeks visiting with her daughter Mrs. Ben Hamilton and Mr. Hamilton. Little Miss Lorie Cartwright is a patient in Goderich hospital, we wish her a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Raithby visited last Saturday with Mr. and . Mrs. Grant Raithby and family at Collingwood. ' Several members of the Auburn ' Horticultural Society attended the tea at Blyth last Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Scott, Mr. and Mrs. Norman McDowell, Miss Gwen McDowell and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Webster attended the Noble wedding last Friday everting_ KNOX CHURCH The annual Sunday School anniversary of Knox United Church will be held Sunday at 11:15 a.m. with Miss ' Marsha Koopmans as the guest speaker, Special music will be supplied by the Junior choir. WESTFIELD CHURCH Many from here attended the Spring Thankoffering in the Westfield United Church last Sunday evening to hear Mrs. Harvey Johnston speak of the work at Huronview. A large crowd attended this service sponsored by the U.C.W. because it was the last service before church is closed. Brucefield ' BY MRS. H. F. BERRY Mr. and Mrs. Barry Lyndon, Toronto, spent last weekend with Mrs. Lyndon's mother, Mrs. W. Haugh. Mr. and Mrs. Tyommsler, Toronto, visited with their daughter, Mrs. Johanna Vuilleux, Brucefield,-Mrs. John Henderson and her mother, Mrs. Johnston. Mrs. Geo. Henderson spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Peterson, Sarnia. • Mr. and Mrs. Greg McGregor, Mr. and Mrs. Fred McGregor and family spent the weekend with Mrs. Max Tully, Peterborough. Miss Helen Broadfoot, London, was a weekend guest with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Broadfoot. Mrs. James McNaughton sprained her ankle on the street in Seaforth on Saturday. The annual memorial service will be held at Baird's Cemetery on Sunday, June 22. a r 40th anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Stevens of Walton celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on Sunday, June 1. Berta Nott, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Nott, and Ernie Stevens, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Stevens, were married in Londesboro Manse on June 1, 1929,' by Rev. Abery. After their marriage, they lived in Seaforth, where Mr. Stevens was employed at Seaforth Creamery 'for 20 years. In 1947 they moved to Walton where they now reside and Mr. .Stevens is, :now employed at nm6Gavin's Farm Equipment. t. family dinner was held at the Blue Barn, Listowel, after which Mr. and Mrs. Stevens returned to the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ken McDonald, where open house was held.
