No. 1, St. Thomas 1.967 was a bad year for Ken Monteith. He had 130 acres•of white beans rained out — just before harvesting. Ken was a very discouraged young farmer at that point. And finding the money to start again in 1968 was a problem. After his experience, Ken took advantage of the white bean crop insurance program as soon as it was introduced in 1968 — and that helped make financing his farm operation easier too, It also paid off when half his '68 crop. was wiped out by rain shortly after planting. The other half of the crop was severely damaged. Yield was down by two-thirds — but crop insurance helped cover his losses, Ken Monteith's only regret — "I wish 1 could have•had crop insurance in '67" he said. You can be sure he'll have it in 1969, What about you ? Are you going to risk Ibsing your crops? You don't have to. Protect you' investment with low-cost crop insurance, Talk to your local agent — he's listed below, And make sure your application is in before the deadline, or 10 days after seeding whichever comes first. When cooking rhubarb, let its natural blush -pink color come through and do not peel the sterns, Just wash and cut into one -inch pieces, sprinkle with. sugar and either stew in a small amount of water or in a double boiler with no water, or bake covered, at 350 'deg. F for about 40 minutes or until the rhubarb. is a rich red color. It's helpful tg know that one pound 'rhubarb yields five one-half cup servings; 2 pounds or 4 cups of rhubarb make one 8 or 9 inch pie. One further tip from the Food Council, Ontario Department of Agriculture and Food — to keep juice from running out of a rhubarb pie, mix' two tbsp tapioca with the flour and sugar. 1',, Clinton News-jecold, TilursdaY,, June'a, 1959 :3,A DATS • the more ,forour more car y y on display now at GERALD'S SUPERTEST' DATSUN SALES & SERVICE SEAFORTH PHONE 527-1010 Depend on AQP for the , 81 WEST ST.
