WES BRADNOCK HALLAHAN—HICKEY Connie Hickey and Miss Joanne Hickey, sisters of the bride and Miss Margaret Hallahan, sister of the groom, their dresses and flowers were the same as the maid of honor. • Miss Phyllis Hickey, sister of the bride was flower -girl. She wore a dress like the bride's but with no train, and carried a miniature bouquet of roses and lily -of -the -valley. The ring bearer was Steven Hickey, brother, of the bride. - The best man was William E. Hallahan, R.R.3 Blyth, cousin of the groom. Ushers. were Bob Hickey, brother of the bride, Tom Hallahan, Joe Hallahan, and Raymond Hallahan. - • Following the ceremony, a reception took place in the Auburn Community Hall. Assisting the wedding party in receiving the guests was the bride's mother wearing a dress of powder blue bridal faille with matching lace coat, navy accessories and a corsage of pink sweetheart roses.. She was assisted by the groom's mother wearing a pink lace dress, black accessories and a corsage of pink sweetheart roses. The hall was attractively decorated with blue and white streamers, bouquets of spring flowers and lilacs. Her three-story wedding 'cake was flanked by blue tapers. Bob Hickey was chairman for the toasts and speeches following the dinner served,by the Auburn Women's Institute. For a wedding trip to Northern Ontario the bride donned a pink and cream coat and dress ensemble, beige shoes, purse and gloves and a pink sweetheart rose corsage. On their return they will reside on the groom's farm, R.R.3 Belgrave. Mauve lilacs and coloured tulips against ''i a cedar background made a pretty setting in St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church for the marriage of Marian Jean Hickey and Donald Francis Hallahan. The Pride is the eldest daughter of Mr, and Mrs. Joseph Hickey, R.R,3 Auburn and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Hallahan, R.R.3 Blyth. The Rev. H. Galea of • Kingsbridge performed the double -ring ceremony at 4'p.m.. on May 31. The organist was Mrs. Cyril Boyle who accompanied the soloist, Cyril. Boyle. Given in 'marriage by her father, the bride looked lovely in a formal Lagoda crepe and Alencon lace, featuring a sabr.'.na neckline, lace bodice and long lace lily -point sleeves and A-line skirt. A detachable sleeveless coat train with panels of matching lace, bowed at the shoulder, fell gracefully to the hemline. Her headdress was an organza floral arrangement caught to a scalloped edged four -tiered veil of nylon illusion. She carried a bouquet of red sweetheart roses, lily -of -the -valley and ivy. Miss Alfreda Godsworthy, Clinton, was the maid of honor and wore a floor -length powder blue sleeveless empire gown of bridal faille with a matching blue chiffon train from the shoulder. Two rosebuds of matching material, surrounded by eight leaves, carried the veil of the headdress. She wore small wrist lace gloves and carried mauve And white flowers in,a half -circle arrangement. The bridesmaids were Misses KNOX ANNIVERSARY Rev. Robert Hill of Petrolia was the guest speaker at the 109th anniversary service of Knox Presbyterian Church last Sunday. The theme of his message was "The Renewal of the Church." The soloist was Ed. Haines. The organist was Mrs. Donald Haines and the ushers G` were : Fordpn.` , Dobie ,. and Kenneth Scott.' PERSONALS ,Murray Klaas, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Klaas, graduated as a chemical engineer from the University of Waterloo last week and has accepted a position at Niagara Falls. He and his wife and daughter, Gwendolyn, spent the week -end here. Mr. and Mrs. G. Klaas and Mr. and Mrs. C. Dykstra of Clinton attended the graduation ceremonies. Mr. and • Mrs. Clayton Robertson of Copper Cliff spent the week -end with his father, J.J. Robertson and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Straughan. UCW MEETING The general meeting of the United Church Women of Knox Church was held in the Sunday school room with Unit 2 in charge. The president, Mrs. M.R.Roberts, gave the call to worship. Mrs. George Millian presided at the piano. Mrs. Roberts read a •poem, and Mrs. Elliott Lapp led in prayer. The offering was received by Mrs. George Hallam and Mrs. Ben Hamilton. Mrs. William Empey read the scripture lesson. Mrs. Emmerson Rodgers sang a solo, accompanied by Mrs. G. Millian. Rev. M.R.Roberts conducted the Bible study. Mrs. Roberts presided for the business session. The minutes were accepted as read by the secretary, Mrs. Albert McFarlane. The financial statement was received as presented by the treasurer, Mrs. Oliver Anderson. Lunch served by Unit 2 and a social time enjoyed. KELLER WELFARE UNIT Creation of a county welfare unit was proposed last week by a representative of the Ontario Welfare Dept., James Deneaux of Wingham, who spoke at a meeting of the Huron County Council in Goderich. Mr. Deneaux urged formation of a committee to investigate the county welfare units ,already operating in the province. At present rates, Mr. Deneaux estimated it would cost the county about $23,000 to establish a county unit. He said 50 per cent of the administration costs would be paid by the province. Three persons probably would be required to staff the office, Mr. Deneaux said: an administrator, a field worker and a clerical employee. The system was considered by county council about four years ago, Mr. Deneaux recalled, but it was turned down by a close vote. COUNTY PLANNING G. V. Kleinfeldt and Associates Limited, the Kitchener planning firm selected deputy -reeve, and planning board chairman. Mr. Cudmore told county council last week that the response from municipal councillors has been good. CURATOR'S PORTRAIT A portrait of Herb Neill, former curator of the Huron County Museum in Goderich, has been painted by J. W. McLaren, of Benmiller, president of the county historical society, and will hang in the museum. The picture was to have been presented to Mr. Neill officially last Friday at the monthly meeting of county council, but the distinguished recipient was ill and in hospital. NEW CELLAR WET Huron County Council has been concerned about a water problem in the basement of the new administrative building. Reeve A. D. Smith, Turnberry, asked last week if the trouble had been corrected. The regular meeting of the A.C.W. of St. James' Church, Middleton will be held next Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Edward Wise, the roll call to be a favorite biblical verse. Brucefield Mrs. Mac Wilson and Mrs. A. Paterson left on Tuesday for a vacation in Europe. We are sorry to report that Mrs. E. Douglas is a patient in Seaforth Hospital. Mrs. A. Paterson, Mrs. W, McBeath and Mrs. Berry visited with Mrs. M. Sholdice, Exeter on Sunday., Mr. and Mrs. W. Jackson spent Sunday with relatives in London and. Belmont. Mrs. M. Hardey, Huronview, fell and fractured her hip. She was removed to London Hospital. Mrs. Gordon Elliott spent Tuesday with relatives in Brucefield. McKi Ilop Council ,awards contract A $4,022 contract for a new culvert on'Sideroa'd 15 and 16 of McKillop Township was awarded '• to Gerald Brintnell, RR 1, Granton, at Monday night's township council meeting. The work will be completed by Aug. 15. The evening opened with a sing song with Mrs. Ross Broadfoot at the piano, Mrs. Robert Elgie being master of ceremonies. Two 'contests were conducted by Mrs. Elgie and one by Mrs. Keith Lovell. A duet was given by Michael and John Binnendyk, and piano selections by Mrs. Jerry Moffatt. A trio, Debbie Consitt, Sharon and Sue Anne Finlayson sang a number. The address was read by Mrs. Edison McLean and gifts presented, Marie making a suitable reply and lunch was served. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Robinson of Crediton visited on Saturday with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Robinson. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bell and Ronnie, and Mr. Gordon Bell of RR 3, New Hamburg, Mr. and Mrs. William Bell, Debbie and Denise of RR 1, Stratford spent Sunday visiting Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bell and family.
