Admission $1.50 each. -- 22b Bluebirds win in girls' ball.. The Bluebirds beat the Wrens in a Junior Girls Softball House League game on . May 13. Bluebird runs were scored by Cindy Colquhoun, Sandra Fremlin, Darlenerfene Webbb (2) and Holly Define (2). Wren runs were scored by Barbie Aggerholm, Diane Cunningham and Barb Pollock. On May 14, the Wrens and Canaries came out tied at 51-51. Wren home runs were baited- by Ruthanne Neilans and Andrea Overboe. Canary runs were hit by Mickey McPherson (3), Joyce Neilans and Bonnie Johnston. The Bluebirds were victorious May 15, defeating the Robins 52-27. Holly Define hit two runs for the Bluebirds, with one run each credited to Darlene Webb, Brenda Smith, Kathy Johnson and Beverley Edgar. Gail Wager batted two runs for the Robins. Tigers win two In town league Pee Wee baseball on May 22, the first -place Tigers exploded for. 12 runs in the first .inning and went on to beat the Yankees 16 to 2. Pete Walden, Clare Colquhoun and Donnie MaeDonald.were the big guns for the Tigers. MacDonald .allowed only four hits, two apiece. to Steve CgQk and Greg Butler, while striking out 13 batters. Last Saturday, the Tigers continued their winning streak by trouneing the Twins 17 to 7 in the first game of the day. The Tigers scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back. Donnie MacDonald again led the winners, striking out 12 Twin batters and getting three hits. The game also saw the first triple play, P. Walden and R. Wise, Tiger ballplayers, were on first and second base when Bruce Kempston hit a line drive to Gerry Cantelon who caught it, threw the man out at second and Dave Engel then threw to Billy Irwin for the third out at first base, The day's 'second game saw the Yankees bomb the Red Sox in the first inning for 10 runs and go on to beat them 10 to 9. It was a team ,effort on the part Colts victorious In Town League minor baseball sponsored by the Clinton Kinsmen, a Squirt contest between the Cardinals and Expos was called recently on account of darkness and will ' be replayed. The Colts continued their winning ways, blasting the Mets 24-4. The Cubs were led by Terry Gardner who allowed only three hits and had two hits of his own. Gary Black had a perfect hitting night with five hits. In Pee Wee play, the Yankees edged the Twins 11-8, with four runs in the last inning. Steve Cook drove in the winning run with a sacrifice in the last inning. and stay on top of the Yankees who Jxad 14 hits. On Monday, May 18, the Cubs came from behind In :the bottom of the last inning to score three runs for a14.13 victory over .the Expos. For the Cubs, Steve Steep, Terry Oardner and John McBride scored three times. Brad Reid.twice and singles were bit by Bill Proctor, Gordon Black and Steve Campbell,. Peter Kelly, Gary Jordan and Dave Clynick had three runs each fpr the Expos, Robert Leppington, 2 and Bert Amsing and Jack Cook, one each• The Wednesday night game was called after three innings due to cold and wet weather. The Cards had jumped to an early 8-2 lead and finished the game at 9-5 over the Mets. The first extra inning ballgame this season was played Iast Monday between the league -leading Cards and the Cubs, After five full innings, the clubs were tied 17-27. In the sixth, the Cubs had a man ,on third, but the side retired before he could score. Richard Carter scored the winner after a wild throw to third base. in Squirt ball Donnie MacDonald struck out 16 Red Sox batters to lead the Tigers to a 10-9 victory. Neil Colquhoun tied the game in the ' top of the seventh with a double as he managed to get home safely himself. The score was 40-26 with home runs by Geraldine Strong, Gail Wagar, Sherry Hodgins, Ruth Ann Neilans, Debby Colquhoun and Barb Pollock. Last Thursday, the Bluebirds outscored the Canaries 49-37, with runs by Cindy Colquhoun and Marlene Cunningham. The Bluebirds now have three points for first place in the league, followed by the Robins with two points, the Canaries with one-half and the Wrens also with a half-point. Juniorgirls' champion was Ruth Ann Neilans. Questions safety of school buses BY RICHMOND ATKEY• A bus hired by the Huron County Board of Education to transport students to and from the school at Holmesville reportedly lost a wheel in a May 9 mishapand the accident promptethe board last week to launch a full investigation into safety regulations for buses and operators. ' The move was initiated by Robert M. Elliott, RR 1, Clinton, who represents Goderich and Colborne Townships. He led a lengthy discussion and urged exercise of the greatest care possible in bus operation. Board members agreed and voted unanimously to study the situation. No one was hurt in the accident this month. The school principal reported the matter to the board and the operator, Huron Automotive and Supply, Goderich, agreed to place another bus in service.
