Huron West WI plans
annual on May 29
The 68th District Annual of
the Huron West District
Women's Institute will be held
on May 29 in MacKay Hall,
Goderich. The executive of the
district met at Clinton recently
to make plans. The president
Mrs. Wilfred Colclough of
Clinton opened the meeting and
after welcomed the delegates
from the ten branches. The
minutes were read by the
secretary -treasurer, Mrs. James
Horton of Goderich. The
secretary reported that the area
chairman, Mrs. Vermont Pow of
St. Thomas, would be the guest
speaker at the meeting and also
urged that all reports be sent to
her so she could prepare the
financial statement.
The delegates will be asked if
they wish to again sponsor Cho
Byung Hee, a Korean girl in the
fifth grade primary school. This
little girl's father passed away in
December, 1968 and her mother
works as a casual labourer and
supports the family composed of
three other sons the oldest
working at an automobile shop.
An interesting program has
been planned for May 29 and it
is hoped that as many as possible
attend throughout the Huron
West District,
Jr. Farmer bake sale
in Clinton on Saturday
The monthly meeting of the
Huron County Junior Farmers
was held recently in the Clinton
Town Hall with Jamieson Ribey
in the chair. Fifteen members
answered the roll call. During
the business session it w,as
decided to again sponsor a king
and queen contest on Maysa24?:
The members decided to hold
their annual banquet next
November in the Seaforth
Community centre with Murray
Gaunt, MPP; as guest speaker. It
was reported that the York
County exchange is to be held
the weekend of July 19.
. Fred Uhler reported on the
standing of each club: Seaforth,
1497; Clinton, 1349; Howick,
578; South Huron, 537 and
North Huron 535. It was
decided to drop this contest
next year as it did not arouse
enough interest among the clubs.
Elmer Farrish is to be the
guest ,speaker on May 7 •at
Howick Central school with a
basketball game afterwards. The
Clinton Club is sponsoring a
bake sale Saturday in Clinton
and also a bus trip to Kitchener
on May 21 to a Country and
Western show. The Field day
was set for June 28 and it was
decided to hold a formal dance
with Gerald Smith in charge.
Auburn and district
The Walkerburn Club held its
monthly meeting at the home of
Mrs. James Jackson with. Mrs,
Leonard Archambault in charge.
.The Minutes were accepted as
read by Mrs. George Schneider.
The roll call was answered by 16
members and one guest. The
business was conducted and
several brought in the pyjamas
which were sewn for the
Children's Aid Society.
The prize donated by Mrs.
Tom Cunningham was won by
Mrs. L. Archambault, Plans were
made for the next meeting
which will be held at the home
of Mrs, Ronald Gross. The
program will be in charge of Mrs.
Carmen Gross and Mrs: Lloyd
Penfound and the lunch
committee will be Mrs. George
Schneider and Mrs. James
Jackson, The roll call will be
answered by the exchange of
slips and bulbs.
The program for the
afternoon was in charge of Mrs..
James Jackson and Mrs. George
Lawlor, began with a sing -song
and .ended with a hymn, Mrs.
Lorne Flunking read a poem, and
both Miss Margaret R. Jackson
and " Mrs, J, Jackson gave
readings.
Mrs. Lorne Hunking, Mrs,
George Schneider and Mrs.
Elliott Lapp sang as a trio
followed by tworeadings by
Mrs. G. Schneider. Contests
brought the program to a close,
A bake sale was held with Mrs.
Joe Verwey in charge. The.
proceeds will be sent to the
Cancer Society and Crippled
Children Fund. Lunch was
served by Mrs. Arie Duizer and
Mrs. John Hallam.

William J. Craig injured his
hand while doing carpentry and
was treated at Alexandra
Hospital, Goderich.
Miss Judy Arthur,
nurse-in.training at Owen Sound
Hospital, spent the weekend
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Arthur, Mark and Greg.
On Sunday they went to
Toronto where Miss Judy enters
her studies in nursing at Toronto
Sick Children's hospital.
Miss Frances Houston spent
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Jack
McIntosh and family in London.
Mrs. Bert Craig attended the'
Officers' Conference of the
Federated Women's Institute of
Ontario at Guelph last week.
Emery Hathaway of
Courtright was the guest speaker
at Knox United Church last
Sunday.
Mrs. Ralph Munro and Mrs.
Sidney Lansing visited last
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
Donald Youngblut and family of
London and attended the
Empress United Church where
the Rev. J. Roberts of Be!grave
was the guest speaker.
