Don G. Holmes, an
engineering assistant for ' the
Ontario Dept. of Agriculture and
Food in Huron County, is
leaving the Clinton office and
will transfer next month to
Carleton County.
Mr. Holmes, originally from
eastern Ontario, has worked out
of thedepartment's Clinton
office since 1964 and pre;'iously
worked five and a half years for
the Dept. of Highways.
He is being replaced here by
Sam H. Bradshaw, 23, of
Grafton, a 1969 graduate of the
diploma course at the University
of Guelph.

Garry Howes, 22, of
Dalkeith, Glengarry County, has
taken over the job of extension
assistant to Thomas Clapp,
Huron County associate
agricultural representative. Mr.
Howes" is a 1969 graduate of
Kemptville College of
Agricultural Technology.
The local appointments were
among a number announced this
week by Deputy Minister
Everett Biggs. Mr. Howes'
appointment was among several
which are part of an expansion
of advisory services provided by
the department.

Tom Airdrie returned on
Friday having spent nine weeks
in Clinton Public Hospital for
treatment and surgery and we
believe is much improved.
Mrs. Robert Youngblut
entered the Clinton Hospital on
Monday for treatment on her
foot which has been causing
severe pain recently. We hope
she will soon find relief.
Nelson Lear went to Clinton
Public Hospital on Monday. We
wish him a speedy recovery.
The Women's Institute held
its May meeting last Thursday
evening. Roll Call was answered
by naming the first school we
attended, also the first teacher,
Kathy Carter gave a piano
instrumental.
Six young students from the
Londesboro area school, winners
in a Public speaking
contest recently, were Gloria
Adams, Marguerite Snell, Debbie
Johnston, Randy Millar, Larry
Plaetzer and Richard Snell. Each
had a different topic and did
exceptionally well. We hope we
will hear them again.
Mrs. Colclough gave a talk on
public relations, Mrs. Gordon
Robinson, secretary, attended
the 50th anniversary of the
F.W.I.O. held in Guelph during
last week. While there, she met a
former Londesboro girl, Muriel
Lonesberry, who was thrilled to
meet someone from home.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Armstrong
spent the weekend with her
brother, Mr. and Mrs. Will
Taman of Brampton.
Mrs. Gladys Gourley attended
the wedding of Miss Nancy
Schopt and Forest Simonds in
Owen Sound on Saturdays the
bride is a granddaughter of Mrs.
Walter Skimmins.
Mrs. Richard McKenney and
a friend of Scarboro spent the
weekend with her grandmother,
Mrs. Thos. Knox.
Several of the UCW members'
attended the Wesley -Willis
Thankoffering service on Sunday
night whei, the special speaker,
W. A. White, spoke on "The
Challenge of Race in the
Church."
The Explorers contributed
several fine vocal members.
Mrs. Ed Youngblut is a

In earlier times the mail was
delivered only once a year in the
Arctic. Today, mail delivery
takes place once a week in most
of the Yukon and Northwest
Territories.
