INDUSTRY

native Austria, and came to
Canada about 1930. The Milton
plant was opened about 15 years
ago,
The furniture operation here
will take raw lumber and process
it into finished furniture - no
components will be made
elsewhere or purchased.
Besides its own sales, the
company hopes to interest other
manufacturers in using
components which would be
built here.
Mr. Fabian Jr. sees Clinton as
a good site for the plant and says
"now it is up to us." He foresees
a million -dollar annual
production rate for the plant
here "within a year."
The company's patented
"U-bend" process reportedly
uses less material and produces
stronger furniture than
traditional methods of joining
wood.
Town councillors were given
an example of the potential for
cost-saving with the company's
process when they were told the
case - the back, two sides,
bottom and legs - of a triple
dresser was assembled in less
than three minutes in Milton.
One possible source • of
workers mentioned Monday by
the Fabians was the staff of a
Seaforth furniture company
which closed last year.

CHSS TV
Some of the latest techniques
in producing miniature photo
transparencies or slides for
educational use were shown to
Canadian ' Armed Forces
instructors and Huron County
teachers at CFB Clinton last
week during a seminar
co-ordinated by Lt. Cmdr. L. W.
Maundcote-Carter.
Showing teachers how to
make their own slides for
classroom use were personnel
from the Training Extension
Division of the Canadian Forces
School of Instructional
Technique and representatives of
several private companies.
Interest was added by the
first use of closed circuit TV at
the Clinton base. Parts of the
demonstrations too small or
precise to be seen easily by the
whole audience were picked up
by the camera, under the
direction of Capt. Ted Strang,
and enlarged many times on the
television monitors placed
strategically in the auditorium.
Use of the TV set-up was
made possible by Clinton's
Central Huron Secondary School
which loaned some of its newly
acquired equipment for the
program,

Sewer plans
go to OMB
Owners of several properties
on Clinton's Maple Street have
objected to town plans to install
sanitary sewers and assess the
landowners, it was learned
Monday evening at the town
council meeting.
The town's solicitor is
forwarding the complaints to the
Ontario Municipal Board, said
John Livermore, Clerk -treasurer,
and the OMB will set a date,
hold a hearing and decide
whether or not to allow the
sewers to be built,
Given the go-ahead, the town
can quickly call for tenders and
install the pipe, it was said. Final
determination of the assessment
on each property would be Made
by a court of revision after the
project is finished. .
Urgingspeedy action,
Councillor Harold Lobb said
"the people ate more or less in
distress qp there." There are
several new hotnes being built on
Maple Street and the 1-luron
Medical Officer of Health has
denied permission to install
septic systeilfis.
