Hospital •auxiliary hears
'encouraging' reports
Members of the Clinton
.Hospital Auxiliary heard most
encouraging reports at their
March meeting, held in the
Nurses' Rssidenee.
President Ruth McLean
opened the meeting with prayer,.
Mrs. L. Paul Walden, acting
secretary, read minutes and
correspondence.
The membership report,
presented by Mrs. Doug Bartliff
in the absence of the convenor
Mrs. Clarence Trott, showed a
registration of 315 members to
date.
Mr. E. W. Ryan reported a
successful launching of the
Vanishing Parties, proceeds of
$171.85 having been turned in
to date.
Buying committee chairman,
Mrs, Brock Olde, informed the
ladies of the committee's
extensive research into securing
appropriate fireproof drapery
for the nursery windows in the
hospital.
Mrs. Orville , Engelstad
expressed appreciation to the
ladies of the Legion Auxiliary
for "pushing" the travelling cart
during March,
The flower cart in the
hospital vestibule is being
received well; the convenor Mrs.
Ryan, is kept busy replacing the
attractive arrangements.
The nominating committee
Clintonian club
works on quilt
Nineteen members attended
the meeting of the Clintonian
Club held March 6 in the Town
Hall. The president, Mrs. Hartley
Monaghan, conducted the
meeting,
Mrs. Leppington displayed a
lovely flower garden quilt top,
which the workcommittee had
finished. It will be quilted this
week at the home of Mrs.
Elizabeth Butler.
Mrs. Russell Colclough gave
the minutes of the last meeting.
Several thank -you notes were
read for flowers and cards
received. Two articles . for the
Dutch auction, were auctioned
off by Mrs. Russell Colclough.
Mrs. Mullholland and Mrs. Effie
Finlay won the articles.
Several calls were reported on
sick and shut ins.h r 9--
It was decided to hold the
April meeting in the Town Hall.
Mrs. George Glazier and Mrs.
Harold Adams to bring articles
for Dutch auction and to look
after program. Meeting closed
and a few games of cards were
enjoyed.

for the hospital meal trays. Any

The report of the
forthcoming craft and hobby
exhibition was presented by Mrs.
Doug Bartliff. She and her
convenor Mrs. Q, Engelstad have
planned to stage the event at
Wesley -Willis United Church on
Ftlday April, 25 and Saturday,
.April 26. A raffle for an arm
chair will be held in conjunction
with the show.

more hobbieists and for
craftsmen, If interested, please
contact one of the convenors,

list executive
A typographical error
resulted in a mixup when the
new executive of the Clinton
Citizen's Horticultural Society
was announced several weeks
ago.
Miss Luella Johnston is
honorary president and Mrs.
Frank Fingland is immediate
past president.
Other officers include Mrs.
Charles Nelson, president; Mrs.
Don Pullen, second vice-
president; Mrs. Brock Olde,
secretary; and Mrs. Ron
McCann, treasurer. The post of
first vice-president is vacant.
Directors serving two-year

Mary Epps, Mrs. W. J. Counter,
Mrs. Ceriel Van Damme and

A card party held recently by
the L.O.B.A. in the Orange Hall

HAZEL COLLINS BiLL BOISSEY
Hazel Collins, RR 3,Clinton and Bill Boussey of Shipley
Street, Clinton, both students at Central Huron Secondary
School, were winners of the Lions International district public
speaking contest held in Wingham last Friday, The two will
advance to the semi-finals in Angus next month and have a
chance of going on to the Ontario -Quebec competition in
Ottawa. Their success in the preliminary contest in Blyth and
the district match in Wingham have already added to the
school's trophy collection.
Legion Hall is painted
The Clinton Legion Hall
auditorium has been freshly
painted and its drapes cleaned
and fireproofed, it was noted at
the monthly meeting of the
Royal Canadian Legion Ladies'
Auxiliary on Monday. The
downstairs lounge will be
painted in the future.
The meeting was conducted
by the president, Mrs. Dennis
Bisback, who said the members
have a busy spring schedule with
many banquets to cater and card
parties, dances and bowling
tourneys to attend.
Anyone who wishes to
participate in the mixed
tournament April 19 in
Kincardine is asked to call Mrs.
Black or yrs. MacDonald.

No one injured
in five crashes
Five auto accidents in the
Clinton district were reported
last week by Ontario Provincial
Police, Goderich detachment.
None of the crashes involved
injuries, police said.
Last Saturday, on County
Road 3 in Tuckersmith
Township, west of County Road
12, there was a collision
involving cars driven by George
A. Maxwell; Hensall and Robert
Watson ; ,of Seaforth, Total

Walter ,T. Orc'of Bayfield had
an accident Tuesday March 4 on
the Bayfield Concession, east of
Highway 21, and damage to the
truck he was driving was
estimated at $1,600.
Two Goderich drivers were
involved in a collision Monday,
March 3, on Highway 8 east of
Benmiller. Drivers were
identified as Bruce W. Utley of
116 Wolfe St., Goderich, and
Orville Rodges, RR 1. Goderich.
One of the vehicles was a truck,
the other an auto. Damage was
estimated at $825 total.
A minor crash on County
Road 12, four -tenths of a mile
south of Concession 4 in
McKillop Township resulted in
$125 damage on Sunday March
2 to cars driven by James W.
Finlayson, RR2, Seaforth, and
William Raymond Chambers,
RR 4, Wingham.

sailor was fined after the two
pleaded guilty Os assault charges,
stemming, from a' Clinton street
fight .last month, according to
town Police,

Bowers, 18, of Goderich,
received a five-day jail sentence
for assault with actual bodily
harm. Ralph Gillis, 21, of IIMCS
Nipigon paid a $75 fine for
common assault.
The altercation took place on

Street in mid-aftern4Qn
February 18, Two unidentified
Clinton youths were hurt. One
had a fractured nose, the other a
fractured hand, police said.
Johanrias H. Leppington of
RR 3, Clinton, was fined $125
for violating laws against
possession of liquor by minors.
Archie D. Fleet of Orange
Street, Clinton, was fined $40
for careless driving. Mr. Fleet
was involved in an auto accident
here on January 13,
James Britton of CFB
Clinton, driver of an auto which
crashed into a Victoria Street
apartment building early one
morning last month, was
penalized $20 for improper
passing.

the Ontario Street United
Church, Clinton, last Friday.
Mrs. L, Hibbert spoke on the
world-wide theme, "Growing
Together in Christ."
Mrs. G. James, with string
accompaniment, favoured with a
solo and at intervals during the
service sang the African spiritual,
"Kum Ba Yah."
