A full weekend of winter fun
starts today as Clinton's Winter
Carnival shifts into high gear for
a programme which includes
skating, races, a parade and an
appearance by Miss Dominion of
Canada.
The Christian Reformed
Church young people lead off
the events with a skating party
tonight at the Community

will be studying snow sculptures,

houses.
At 8:15 p.m. tomorrow at
the arena, the Clinton Figure
Skating Club presents "Ice -Nicks
'69," an interclub show
featuring participants from
Goderich and St. Marys.

skaters will appear, along with
35 visitors, including several
professionals. Admission is $1
for adults, 50 cents for students.
Preschoolers are free.
Highlight of the show is sure
to be the elaborate costuming,
especially the colourful papier
mache animals created by Mr.
and Mrs. William Craven of
Goderich.
Besides the Dr. Doolittle
menagerie, there will be a Funny
Girl number, psychedelic skating
and a production of "Bonnie Ice
and Clyde" featuring club pro
Bob MacCrabb and Esther
Whiteside.
The Clinton Teen Town will
hold a dance tomorrow night as
well — at nine o'clock in the
Legion Hall.
Saturday's activities get
underway with a pancake
breakfast at 9 a.m. in the CFB
Clinton coffee house tent at the
town's community park. At the
same time, public school skating
races will be held in the arena
with contestants from seven
district schools.
For a 50 -cent entry fee,
hungry pancake eaters can
compete with one another in a
contest slated for 10:30 a.m.
and can then take a break until
one o'clock.
At 1 p.m., "Big Al" Jones,
Kitchener broadcaster, will lead
off a parade from the Legion
Hall, down Albert Street and
into the park.

Twenty-five units, including
three bands and a dozen or more
floats, are scheduled for the line
of march. Riding cars and floats
will be the seven pairs of public
school-age contestants vying for
the snow king and queen titles
and Miss Dominion of Canada
who will officially open the
weekend in a ceremony outside
the arena at 2 p.m.
At 2:15 the judges are to
announce their choice of king
and queen and Miss Dominion of
Canada will crown the
youngsters. Horse and cutter
races are set for 2:30 p.m. in the
park and, at the same time,
Ontario Hydro will stage an
appliance show at the Legion
Hall. Tickets for the show are
mostly sold already.
Between races, there will be
tug-of-war contests and a
log -sawing competition in front
of the grandstand.
At 7:30 p.m. Saturday,
Christmas trees will be set ablaze
in a big bonfire at the park to be
followed by public skating in the
arena from 8 to 10 p.m.
From nine to midnight, the
over -21 set will be at two
dances: one in the arena
auditorium and sponsored by
the Recreation Committee, the
other at the Legion Hall.
Snowmobile races take center
stage on Sunday, with the
registration from 10 a.m. to
noon and the first heat at 1 p.m.
with. Brian Leboe, CFPL Radio
announcer from London, as
master of ceremonies.
Presiding judge at the races
will be from Stratford. St.
John's Ambulance Corps
members will be on hand in case
of any injury. At 4:30 p.m., the
carnival committee will draw the
winning ticket and give away a
brand new snowmobile. Draw
tickets and proceeds must be
returned to the committee by
Saturday night at the arena.
From 2 to 3 p.m. there will
be skating for tots in the arena;
from 3 to 4:30 for adults and
from 7:30 to 9:30 for th
general public.
