Walkerburn
club meets
Members of the Walkerburn
Club held their monthly meeting
at the home of Mrs. Arie Duizer
with a good attendance. The
meeting was in charge of the
president, Mrs. Ted Hunking.
The meeting was opened by
singing 0 Canada followed by
prayer by Mrs. Roy Daer. The
minutes were approved as read
by the secretary, Mrs. Elliott
Lapp. Mrs. Tom Cunningham,
the treasurer, gave the financial
statement. The draw prize
donated by Mrs. Tom
Cunningham was won by Mrs.
Hunking. On motion of Mrs.
George Schneider and Mrs.
Walter Cunningham, the
members decided to send a five
dollar birthday gift to their
foster child in Korea.
Plans were made for the next
meeting , when there will be a
miscellaneous penny sale and the
roll call is to be answered by a
Valentine's verse — sing, say or
pay.
The meeting will be held at
the home of Mrs. George
Schneider with the program to
be in charge of Mrs. Henry
Hunking and Mrs. Joe Hunking
and the lunch committee, Mrs.
Garth McClinchey and Mrs. Roy
Daer.
A program for the afternoon
was presented by Mrs. Daer and
Mrs. McClinchey. Lunch was
served by Mrs. Tom Cunningham
and Mrs. Elliott Lapp and a
social hour enjoyed.

Eleanor Bradnock attended the
4—H Leadership training classes
for the spring project — Meat in
the Menu. The classes will
commence as soon as supplies
arrive.

Brantford visited on Saturday
with her mother, Mrs. Gordon
R. Taylor who had returned
home afterr a visit with them.

Street, last Saturday to honour
Mr. and Mrs. Mac Falconer of 9
William Street on 'the occasion
of their 45th wedding
anniversary, which is today. The
couple received many lovely
gifts. The , evening was spent
playing progressive euchre.
Prizes and a buffet lunch
brought the evening to a close.
Mrs. W. A. Oakes had a
welcome visitor this week, a
lovely big robin spent a morning
just outside her window.

Mrs. Roberts for their

Farm federation
disbands in Hay

The federation would have
issolved last year, but the Huron
County federation had asked
withe township executive to
service until the end of 1968
with the idea that a single
general farm organization might
be created.
When no such organization
was formed, the local group
decided to end its existence.
The members agreed to cut the
present levy of two-fifths of a
mill in ,half and forward the
money directly to the county
organization,
Surplus funds of about $600
were turned over to the town,
with $500 earmarked for
construction of steps to the
beach at Centennail Park and the
balance to be held for future
farm organization purposes.
Elgin Hendrick was chairman
'of the meeting and W. Mousseau,
secretary -treasurer. Elmer
Hunter, county federation
president, told the gathering that
the Ontario federation has
received 800 orders for imported
tractors and the OFA is
exploring. overseas prices for
Atrazine,

'-Agricultural Society, brought
greetings from the county. He
urged that farmers should • be
organized and let the
government know they are not
in favour of the estate tax
changes which are taking place
as it will put a burden on the
second generation of farmers'
sons taking over family farms.
George Prins, Chatham, of
the chemical division of Shell of
Canada, was the guest speaker.
He showed films on Ghana and
other African countries,' He had
worked with a team studying
new chemicals to control insects
on cocoa production in West
Africa.

has card party
The A.C.W. of St. James
Church, Middleton, held a
successful card party last Friday
evening in the Township Hall,
Holmesville.
The president, 'Mrs. Edward
Wise, welcomed the card players.
There were 13 tables of euchre
and the prize winners were:

teen's high, Frank Thompson;
ladies' low, Mrs. Hetsler; men's
low, Wilfred Glazier; ladies'
mystery prize, Mrs. Danny

Afternoon UCW holds meeting
The afternoon unit of the
Ontario Street United Church
Women met in the church parlor
Tuesday with 24 members
present. Mrs. F. McGregor
conducted the meeting.
The worship service was
taken by Mrs. C. Garrow, Mrs.
M. Batkin presented the study
book on China. Mrs. H. Murch
entertained by giving readings.
The Women's World Day of
UCW meets
The Evening Unit of Ontario
St. United Church, Clinton, met
in the church parlour this week
with' 23 members present and
paying dues.
The Light of the World was
the devotion theme, taken by
Lois Elliott and Roberta
Plumsteel.
The Secretary and treasurer
gave their annual reports, noting
that seven home calls were made
and 31 hospital calls,
Edith Wright spoke on China.
A potluck supper is planned for
February 24. Lunch was served
by group No. 9:
Prayer will be held in the church
Friday, March 7, it was
announced.
Mrs. E. B. bide will be in
charge of the program for the
March meeting and the October
- group will provide lunch.
The September group served
lunch this week. its members are
Mrs. 0. Popp, Mrs. W. Welsh,
Mrs. M. Wiltse, Mrs. J. Merrill,

Former Hensall mon, now at
Huronview, is 102' tomorrow

Born in Nay 'Township in
1867, he resided there until his
parents moved to a farm in
Tuekersmith, where his son,
Stanley, still resides,
When his father moved to ,a
farm in Usborne Township 14
years later, Mr, Mitchell
remained at the Tuckersmith
home,
He is still able to recall an old
cheese factory located near the
home, built in 1870 by Andrew
Malcolm and closed in 1900. He
also remembers construction of
a railway through the area.
In 1891 he married Elizabeth
Rice of Cromarty who died in
1956 at the age of 83. They had
celebrated their 64th wedding

• Despite inclement weather
last Wednesday members of
Hensall United Church gathered
in the Fellowship Hall for their
annual congregational dinner
and business meeting.
Following the dinner hour,
Mrs. Vern Alderdice, president
of the U.C.W., led in a rousing
singsong with Mrs. J. C. Goddard
at the piano. She also introduced
Mrs. Robert' Simpson who
showed colored slides of the
recent trip which she and her
husband took to Scotland.
Pam Mickle played a piano
instrumental and a solo,
accompanied by Miss Greta
Lammie, was sung by Sherry
Trovers.
The Rev. Harold F. Currie
chaired the business portion of
the evening with Clerk of the
Congregation Edison Forest
recording the minutes.
Cecil Pepper, Chairman of the
Committee of Stewards,
presented the budget for 1969.
Robert Reaburn, Chairman for
the nominating committee
presented the names of Robert
Brodie. Mrs. Carl Passmore and
Lloyd Ferguson to replace the
retiring members on the
committee of Stewards. The
Board of Session remains as such
until next January. Harvey Keys
and Ross Veal were added to the
list of ushers.
Statistics showed 350
resident members of the church.,
Twenty young people were
confirmed and 10 infants
baptized last year. Fifteen
funerals were held and 11 couples
married.
Personals
Mrs. Inez McEwen while
returning home from work last
Friday evening had the
misfortune to twist her ankle,
fracturing a bone in her foot,
which will be in a cast for a
month. Mrs. McEwen is staying
at the home of her daughter and
son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Smith, RR 1, Hensall.
Mrs. George Hess, who has
spent the past two months with
her daughter and son-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. J. L. McCloy and
family, .at' Don Mills, returned
home Sunday.
