Kippers East Women's Institute holds
next meeting at Huronview
Kippen East Women's
Institute held its education
meeting at the home of Mrs. J.
B. Sinclair, Seaforth, on January
15. Mrs. Cecil Pullman was
co -hostess. President Mrs, Ken.
McKay chaired the meeting.
The treasurer's report was
given by Mrs. Vern Alderdiee;
Sunshine report, Mrs. Robert
Kinsman and historical research,
Mrs. Charles Eyre.
Two new members, Mrs. J,
Wall and Mrs. Harburn, were
presented with their institute
pins and handbooks.
Mrs. M: Connolly and Mrs.
Harry Caldwell will head the •
next 4-11 girls club "Meat In The
Menu". They will attend a
leaders' school January 28-29 in
Ontario Street Church, Clinton.
It was decided to hold the
February meeting at Huronview
when a programme will be
presented to the patients, and
also to have a bus trip May 28.
Anyone wishing to go should
notify Mrs, James Drummond as
soon as possible. •
Mrs, Cecil Pullman gave the
motto which was prepared by
Miss Margaret McKay,
"Examples set for us by past
generations and the results".
Mrs. Pullman concluded with a
New Year's poem.
Mrs. Sinclair introduced the
guest speaker, Mrs. Allan Fraser,
Exeter. She presented a display
of fairy lamps .of different kinds
of glass. She showed pictures
taken on her trip to France,
Italy, Switzerland, Germany,
Austria, Holland, 'England and

in a joint service at the Legion

Missionary Society gets letter
from school teacher in Kenya
The first meeting of the year
for the Senior Women's
Missionary Society of Carmel
Presbyterian Church was held
last Thursday at 2 p.m. Fourteen
members answered the roll call
with the membership fees, and
with a new Year's resolution.
The president, Mrs. R. A. Orr,
opened the meeting with the
reading of a hymn. Mrs. Harvey
Hyde gave the study and
devotion on the new form of
missions, of the new acts of
missions. Mrs. Malcolm Dougall
read passages of the Bible while
Mrs. Munn read the prayer of
missions.
Vice-president, Mrs. George
Walz gave the report of the sick
l and shut in parcels that were
packed and distributed for
Christmas by the members.
Mrs. Orr presented a life
membership certificate to Mrs.
George Walz, a well-earned
reward.
Mrs. Schwalm received a letter
from Miss Hazel MacDonald of
Goderich, who left December
for Kenya, Africa, to go to a
mission school in the, mountains
at over 7,000 feet altitude. A
Christmas service she attended
lasted over two and a half hours
with children taking part in the
pageant and choirs singing. The

Unit 2, Hensall United
Church Women met January 13
at the L.iurch. Mrs. Rodger
Venner read a poem, "A New
Year", and introduced the new
study on China, dealing mainly
with Hunan Province.
Mrs. Harold Currie gave the
devotional with a lessors, called
"Why be concerned", taken
from the book "Toward
Understanding China", which
coincides with the study book.
Mrs. Harry Hoy took over the
business. Plans wete discussed
for the congregational supper

Rodger Venner and her group:

Wareing, Mrs. Pearl Passmore,

the skit, different passages wete

Man".
The meeting adjourned with

Amber Rebekah
marks birthdays
The regular meeting or
Amber Rebekah Lodge was held
last Wednesday with Noble
Grand Mrs. Earl Campbell
presiding. The Charter was.
draped in memory of the late
Mr. Lindsay Eyre, a member of
the lodge.
Plans were made for the
annual birthday party,
Wednesday, February 5, when
Brussels and Belmont will be
special guests, -
Sunshine pal gifts were given
out and new names drawn.
A social hour was enjoyed
and lunch served.

Carmel was a guest for a few
days last week with Miss Pamela
Sangster.

Toronto, were weekend visitors
with Mrs. John Henderson and
family.
Mr. and 'Mrs. W. Murdoch
Stewart and son Donald, of Lake
Forrest, Illinois, attended the
birthday celebration of the
former's father, Duncan Stewart,
who celebrated his 102nd
birthday at Huronview January
14.
Congratulations are in order
for Tom Travers, who received
word last week that he had been
successful in passing with
honours, the grade two theory
examination of the Royal
Conservatory of Music. Tom is a
pupil of Miss Greta Lammie

Mrs. Donald MacKinnon and
sons Donald and Brant, of
Alvinston, spent Sunday with
Mrs. Janet MacKinnon.
The annual congregational
dinner of Hensall United Church
will be held Wednesday, January
29, 6:30 p.m. It is hoped that
many of the • congregation will
set aside this evening for a time
of congregational fellowship. An
interesting programme is
planned. Busmesi will be cut to
a minimum.
