You 'nave to see danger to avoid
it. A reminder to all drivers.
Keep windshields and windows
free from slush, ice .and

particularly that an obscurred

Draper's Iast-minute goal Minor hockey play
gives Clinton narrow win
Don Martin and Paul Draper
scored in the final minute of
play to give the Colts an 8.7 win
over Wingham last Thursday.
The game was late starting
due to the stormy weather and
the first period was played in
straight time. The weather must
have affected the playing of`
both teams as the game became
very rugged midway through the
second and third periods.
Clinton jumped to an early
lead on Bud Boyes' goal at
14:58 of the first period. Ron
Sheppard passed the puck
behind the net to Boyes who
beat Bill Crawford in the
Wingham net by jamming the
puck in the corner.
Clinton's fast skating
forward, Don Martin, returned
to the lineup after a two-week
leave. 1 -le finished off a beautiful
passing play from Draper and
McDougall 31 seconds into the
second period. Wingham's first
goal at 2:58, by Houston, was
disputed by Clinton players, but
referee Lou Heinbeck ruled the
goal legal.
Don McDougall rapped home
a rebound from laud Boyes to
give Clinton a 3-1 lead. Then the
team seemed to go into a lapse,
leaving the Wingham forwards
open in front of the net.
Wingham netted two quickies
at 10:30 and 11:20 to Lie the
score 3-3. Clinton ended the
period with a one -goal lead on a
fantastic scoring effort by Bud
Boyes. Boyes and Dale were left
open in front of the net after a
scramble for the puck. Dale
faked a shot. to Crawford, then
slid the puck over to Boyes who
had to react quickly to push the
disc into the net. Dale's ftp
completely fooled everyone in
the building, including
Wingham's net -m inder. Craw ford
and Boyes,
Wingham found some skating
room for the first 10 minutes of
the third period and their efforts
earned three goals, pushing them
ahead 6-1. At 10:26. !,'red
Parsons let go a hard long shot
from centre ice for Clinton's
fifth goal. Again Martin, with his
fantastic skating, zoomed down
the right side of the arena and
picked off a bad pass from a
Wingham defenceman and hit
the top corner to give the locals
a six -all tie.

MARTIN
.. fantastic
Wingham's strongest line,
Houston, Irwin and Peacock,
teamed up at 15:40 to give what
appeared to he Wing»am's
game -winning goal. Houston was
left all alone in front/of Gary
Black. for his second goal of the
game.
'('hen the crowd, quite a good
one for the weather, was treated
to an almost unbelievable finish.
The line of Don Martin, Paul
Draper and laud Boyes played
the final minute for Clinton, At
19:05 Martin fired the tying goal
from a face-off pass from Paul
Draper.
On the following face-off at
centre ice. Draper won the draw
and passed to Martin who/vas in
on Lop of Crawford before the
Wingham defenceman could
move. Martin laid a perfect pass
to Draper in front of the net.
The win put Clinton in fourth
place, two points ahead of
Listowel and only one point
behind third-place Crediton.
A Friday night game will put
Milverton against Clinton at
home.
