Year's dance
Months of hard work
culminated in a grand welcome
to 1969 when the auditorium of
the Bayfield Community Centre
was opened for the first time.
Village and area residents
gathered for an evening of
dancing and merriment.
Warm words of praise and
admiration for the attractive
interior decorating were heard as
most people saw the auditorium
for the first time. The beige
coloured walls, warm red drapes
and unusual wall and ceiling
light fixtures and the finely
polished hardwood floor reflect
the unstinting labour put into
this project by the volunteer
workers.
The auditorium is approached
via a stairway and a glassed -in
balcony, from which special
activities on the ice may be
viewed in warmth and comfort
those

Skating on natural ice
continues but it is hoped to have
the arti Tical ice plant installed by
next season.

.Bayfield •man's honorarium
considered by • s'h`nol board
CLINTON The subject of
an honorarium for Dr. Morgan
Smith, of Bayfield secretary .of
the Huron Interim .School
Organization Committee, a
steering group which smoothed
the transition from local school
boards to a county board, was
discussed but not settled at a
board meeting Monday night.
Dan Murphy of Goderich,
separate school representative on
the board, explai1ed that; .the
matter was discussed by the
steering committee on more
than one occasion, but there
never was a vote or final
decision.
Dr. Smith had written to the
new county board to say that he
would accept as his honorarium
the $773,13 balance in the
steering committee's bank
account. In fact, it was reported
that he has written himself a
cheque for that amount already.
Mr, Murphy noted that Dr.
Smith served in the post for a
year and "did an awful lot of
work," If a specific amount has
been requested, said Mr.
Murphy, the board almost
certainly would have paid a
larger honorarium,
Mr, Murphy indicated that he
is ,content to drop the question
since Dr. Smith is satisfied, but
Robert Elliott, vice-chairman of
the board, remarked, "It doesn't
look good to see a man just take
the balance. It would be better
to stipulate an amount."
