BY A. L. COLOUHOUN
Thespaise .erowd at Clinton
Community Centre on Boxing
Day evening saw one of the best
entertainments of the holiday
Seasen.
On that evening the Clinton
Colts and Wingham played to an
$-8 tie in P. WOAA intermediate
"C" hockey game, At no time in
the game was either team more
than one goal ahead of the
other.
The score was tied 2-2 at the
end of the first period, 4.4 at the
end of the second and at the
17:59 mark of the third, Greg
Rau scored from Paul Draper to
give the Colts an 8-7 edge, only
to have Wingham tie the game
up with only 35 seconds left to
play.
The Colts introduced two
new players, Greg Rau, who
scored two goals, and Laurie.
Colquhoun, who had not played
organized hockey since
graduating from St. Marys
Junior "B" club two years ago.
Colquhoun was a welcome
addition on defence as Butch
Murney had to leave the game in
the first period when the puck
bounced off his face into the net
for Wingham's second goal.
Ron Shepherd, scored his first
two goals of the season for the
Colts. Bob . "Little Joe"
Livermore was the scoring leader
for Clinton with three goals.
Only three penalties were
handed out in the rugged game;
two to the Colts..
Colts lineup; goal, Bob
Farquhar; defence, Bill Mnrney,
Fred Parsons, Doug Macaulay,
Laurie Colquhoun; forwards,
Bob Livermore, Bnd Boyes,
Harvey Dale, Keith Allen, Paul
Draper, Greg Rau, Ray Brown,
Ron Shepherd, Randy Clew;
Sub--goal, Gary Black.
In three games played in
Zurich the week before
Christmas, the Clinton Bantams
were the only team to manage to
win.
The Bantmas defeated
Zurich easily 11 to 4, with Barry
Edgar (3), Danny Colquhoun
(2), Bill Cantelon (2), Linky
Langille (1), Paul Kelly (1) and
Mike Anstett (1) scoring the
goals.

The Peewees were defeated
10.0 and the Midgets suffered a
6.4 defeat after leading early in
the game 3-1. Scores were tallied
by Brian Edgar, Dennis Define,
Gary Cummings and Jim Toop,
with one each.
The Peewees, who have not
had a good season in holding
their opponents from scoring,
kept Seaforth back in a
December 21 game which ended
0-0,
Action was exciting
throughout the game and both
sides had many good chances to
score. Richard Welch, playing his
best game of the season in the
Clinton net, was fantastic in the
first two periods and kicked out
many sure goals.
Bill Irwin and Steve Cook
played dual roles in the game,
each taking turns playing
defence and forward. The
change with Irwin on forward
proved to jell the team with his"
many rushes and checking in
Seaforth 's end.

More kokanees
for Lake Huron
Department of Lands and
Forests fisheries personnel
believe that reproduction and
survival of kokanee salmon now
appears to be possible in the
Great Lakes.
Favourite spawning beds of
this active little fish are the
Manitou and Blue Jay rivers on
Manitoulin Island which they
have used for the past three
years.
Future plans call for kokanee
plantings in additional streams
flowing into Lake Huron to
extend the area more rapidly
where natural reproduction can
occur.
Thirty-five boys And 12
adults travelled to Clinton, New
York, last weekend to take part
in the 5th annual Christmas
Hockey Tournament.
The seven hour ride was the
first long bus trip for many of
the boys. The teams arrived at 1
la,m. a week ago today and the
Peewees had only a short break
before playing their first game
against Ithaca at two o'clock.
Our boys came put the
winners in an exciting 2.0 win,
Steve Cook scored at 8;41 on a
pass from Raymond Burns. The
Ithaca team tried its best to
score on Richard Welch, but he
Was unbeatable.
The little line of David
Counter, Neil Colquhoun and
Jamie Thompson came through
at 9:43 of the third period to
give the extra. goal Clinton
needed to win the game.
Neil's stickhandling got
through the Ithaca defence, but
the goalie made a great save on
the Clinton shot. David Counter
followed in to pick up the
rebound and flipped the puck to
Clinton's goalie.

The next game of the day
was a real thriller, between the
Clinton Bantams and last year's
champs, an Ithaca team.
The former champs scored
early in the first period, at 3:14
and 5:22, when they completely
outplayed Clinton's boys.
Paul Kay banged home a
rebound from Barry Edgar's long
shot at 12:44 of the first period.
Clinton's captain, Dave
Fawcett, scored on a beautiful
backhand shot in the dying
seconds to tie the score.
Ithaca went ahead with the
only score in the second period.
Paul Kelly 'set up Bill Crawford
for the equalizer at 3:56, but 44
seconds later, Ithaca went ahead
again. As the game progressed,
Clinton took command and tied
the score on a quick goal by Bill
Crawford at 8:47 of the third
period.
Clinton completely
out-played Ithaca for the two
full overtime periods, but
couldn't put the puck in the net.
Ithaca managed only two
shots on "Swanky" Andrews in
the overtime periods.
Finally, after 51 seconds in
the third overtime period, the
outstanding star of the game, B.
Mitchell of Ithaca, scored on a
long angle shot which hit the top
corner of the net.
Bill Crawford played an
outstanding game for Clinton
and for his efforts was awarded a
trophy.
