The treasurer's report was
given by Mrs, Frank -Cummings.
It was decided to give $25 to the
Salyatioa Army, $10 • to the
Retarded children's Workshop
and $5 to the Muscplax
Dystrophy. -
It also was . agreed to send
plants- and cards to shut-ins at
Christmas. A collection far
flowers and lunch was taken up
after which a 'short programme
was enjoyed. Gifts were
exchanged.. The meeting closed
with a pot luck supper.
The new president, Mrs.
Hartley Managhan, will take over
for tne next meeting that will be
held in the Town Hall on •
January 2 at 2 o'clock.
Opera to be staged
in London cathedral
Gian-Carlo Menotti's
delightful Christmas Opera,
"Amahl and the Night Visitors",
will be presented by the choir of
boys and men of St. Paul's
Cathedral, London.
The performance will take
place on a specially constructed
stage which will be erected in
the main part of the cathedral
itself, with a set designed by
Helen Klopper, of the London
• Little Theatre.
There • will be two
performances on Sunday, one at
7 p.m., and one at 8:30 p.m.
There will be no admission
euarge, but because of the great
expense involved in such a
production, an offering will be
received, and adults are asked to
contribute $1 and students .50
Christmas trees must not be
set up where they will obstruct
access to doors or windows in an
emergency.

The December.meeting of
the Anglican. Church Women of
St, Mark's Church was held at
the time of Mrs, Thomas
Haggitt, Mrs. Haggitt took
charge of the meeting and.
opened it by giving 44. Advent
reading. The hymn, "joy to the
world" was .sung, with Mrs.
Cordon Taylor at the piano.
' The scripture reading,
Matthew 2nd chapter, was read
followed by prayers, The
MisSion topic,
Thoughts" was taken by Mrs,
Orval McPhee, A piano solo of
favourite Christmas carols was
played . by Mrs, Donald
The study topic, "Meditation. on
the Lord's prayer" was taken by
Mrs, George Schneider, Three
ChristmaS carols, "Silent Night",
"The First Noel," and "0 Little
Town of Bethlehem" were sung
and Mrs. Haggitt thanked all
who had taken part. •
The minutes of the
previous meeting were accepted
as read by. Mrs. John Daer. The
treasurer, Mrs. Andrew
Kiikconnell gave the financial
statement. Correspondence and
thank you notes were read.,Mrs,
Thomas Haggitt and Mrs.
Gordon Taylor are to pack
boxes and remembrances for the
shut-ins. The : roll call was
answered by naming your
favourite Christmas carol. The
penny apron received a penny
for each letter in "Nativity of
our Lord".
The officers for 1969 were
elected • and are as follows:
president, Mrs. Thomas Haggitt;
vice-president, Mrs. - Donald
Cartwright; secretary, Mrs. John
Daer; treasurer, Mrs. Andrew
Ki rkconnell; pianist, Mrs.
Gordon R. Taylor; assistant
pianist, Mrs.. Andrew
Kirkconnell; press reporter, Mrs.
Ed Davies. „.
The hymn, "It came upon
a midnight clear" was sung and
the benediction was
pronounced. Following a
successful auction was held in
charge of Mrs. George Schneider.
It was announced that the
prayer pens were selling well.
Mrs. Haggitt served lunch
assisted by Mrs. Orval McPhee.

the Women's Missionary Soeiety
• of Knox Presbyterian Church
was- held at the home of Miss
Frances E. Houston with a large
attendance. The meeting was in
the charge of the president /Mrs.
Wilfred Sanderson and after the
call to worship she led in prayer.
The Christmas hymn, "0
Come All Ye Faithful," was sung
with Mrs. Donald Haines at the
piano. After a hearty welcome
to visitors and members, the
scripture lesson from the second
chapter of St. Luke was read
with meditation, "No room in
the Inn" and closed with the
thought that it was hoped that
everyone would give room in
their hearts for Christ. A piano
solo, "Star of the East" was
played by Mrs. Robert J.
Phillips.
The guest speaker of the
' afternoon was Miss Margaret R.
Jaekson who spoke on the
theme, "The Gift of Gifts." She
gave an impressive address on
-customs of other lands at
' Christmas time and shy holly?
why tinsel? .why carols?why tree
and why b6xes? She closed by
asking all to remember the
children who are starving to
death in other parts of the world
and always be like the Wisemen
of old he ready to give gifts.
The hymn, "While
Shepherds watched their
flockS," was sung and was
f011owed by the roll call which
w.a.S 'answered by a Bible verse
containing the word, Joy; The
minutes of the November
Meeting were accepted as read
by the secretary, Mrs. Alvin
Leatherland. Mrs. Donald
Haines, the treasurer reported
and all other reports were
accepted. Mrs. -Leatherland
requested everyone to save their
stamps and hand them to her.
Correspondence and thank
you notes were read and the
offering was received and
dedicated with prayer by Mrs.
Sanderson. The meeting was
closed with the hymn, 'Holy
Night, Silent Night" and the
benediction.
A short Ladies Aid meeting
was conducted by the secretary
Mrs. `toy Daer in the absence of
the president, Mrs. Major
Youngblirt. Gifts will be
sent to the sick and shut-ins. A
Christmas lunch was served by
Miss Frances Houston, Mrs.
Warner Andrews and Mrs. Alfred
Rollinson.
Wisemen, Mrs. Stanley Ball, Mrs.
Robert Turner and Mrs, Stewart
Arnent entered while Mrs,
Ernmersop Rodger sang the selo,
"We three Kings of Orient are."
The Star of Bethlehem moved
over and shone on the Manger
Scene and the Babe.
While all stood around the
manger, Reverend M. R. Roberts
welcomed all to partake of the
Sacrament, of Holy Communios
and administered the elements,
Mr, Roberts was assisted by Miss
Margaret R. Jackson, an elder of
the Ses.sion.
After the closing of the
programme, lunch was served by
the members of the Executive.
Thanks were extended to the
members of the U.C.W. by. Mrs.
Thomas .Haggitt of St, Mark's
A.C.W., Mrs, Robert J. Phillips
for the Baptist ladies and Mrs.
Wes Bradnock for Knox

Mr. and Mrs. Torn Morris and
family. Congratulations are

will be held next Sunday evening
at 8 p.m. in Knox United
Church with Reverend John

secretary of the Bible Society, as
the guest speaker. This service is
sponsored annually by the
Auburn Branch of. the Bible

Ontario Provincial. Police,
Goderich detachment, report
that between December 1 and
December 7, nine accidents in
the Clinton area or involving
Clinton area residents were
investigated.
On Sunday, December 1, on
Highway ,$ west of Clinton, John
James Morris, 120 Bruce, street,
Goderich was Involved in a single
car accident resulting in $450
damage to his vehicle. A
passenger, Jean Elizabeth Morris,
1.20 Bruce Street, Goderich,
received injuries.
On Monday, December ?, on
Highway 4 south of County.
Road 3, James Newton Collins,
RR 3 Clinton, was involved in a
single car accident resulting in
,$600 damage to his vehicle. „
On Monday, December 2, on
County Road 31 north of.
Highway 8, Sally Bird, RR 2
Clinton, was involved in a single
car accident resulting in $100
' damage to the vehicle she was
driving.
On Sunday, December 1 on
County Road 31 north of
Holmesville, Ronald George
Carter, 259 ,Queen Street East,
St. Marys -was involved in a
single car accident resulting in
$300 damage to his vehicle.
On Thursday, December 5 on
Highway 8 east of County Road
15, Gerald Hunking, RR 5
Clinton and Betty McLean, 86
East William Street, Seaforth
were involved in a car-truck
accident resulting in an
approximate total dainage of
$1,300 to the vehicles. Betty,
Kenneth and Susan McLean, all
of 86 East William Street,
Seafortli received injuries.

County Road 25 went of
Highway 4, Reginald •Carroll
DrindleY, RR 6, Ooderich was
involved in a single truck
accident resulting in $300
damage to his vehicle.
On Friday, December 011

Medd, RR 1 Clinton were
involved in a two car accident
resulting in an approximate total
damage of $275 to. the Vehicles.
On Saturday, December 7 on

Street, Clinton and Donald
Gordon MacGregor, RR 1,
Londesboro were involved in a
par.,truck accident resulting in an
approximate total, damage of
$105 damage to the vehicles.
To guard against the deadly
air pollution hazard of carbon

couple, of inches or so, when the
engine is mining.
Stanley's assessor
honoured by town
On Wednesday, December 4,
tilt council township officials,
fo mer reeves of the Township
of Stanley and their wives were
entertained at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Elmer Hayter.
The evening was spent
playing euchre, an address was
read by Elmer Hayter,
honouring the retiring assessor
Mr. H. M. Hanly, for his many
years of service to the township
as assessor and tax collector.
Harvey Coleman presented
Mr. Hanly with a wrist watch
and Mrs. Hanly was presented
with a bouquet of roses. A
delicious smorgasbord dinner
brought an enjoyable evening to
a close. .

Sunday school room of the
. Knox United Church when
members of the United Church
Women . held their Christmas
meeting.' Christmas music was
played by ' Mrs. Norman
Wightman.. and Mrs. Harold
Webster opened the meeting by
welcoming the guests from the
other churches and the
members. The hymn, "On
Jordan's banks the Baptists
cry" was sung and entered
,Joseph and Mary to the manger
scene, played by Mrs. Clifford
Branton and Mrs. Elliott Lapp.
The scripture lesson Psalm 138
was read alternately and Mrs.
Gordon Tate sang the solo,
:`Infant Holy."
The first scripture lesson

Mrs. Bert Craig. After singing the
hymn, "The First Noel" the
second lesson from Luke the
second chapter was read by Mrs.
Albert MacFarlane. The hymn,

Mrs. Gordon Powell. The
offering was received by Sherry
Plaetzer and Margaret Roberts
and dedicated.
Sherry Plaetzer and
Margaret Roberts lit the candles
for an impressive service led by
Mrs. M. R. Roberts. She invited
all to go, back with her to
Bethlehem to the time of the
birth of Christ . and Margaret
Roberts sang the solo, "0 Little
town of Bethlehem." Angels
entered and these parts were
played by Mrs. Lawrence
Plaetzer, Mrs, Walter
Cunningham and Mrs. R.
Koopmans. Mrs. Tate sang the
solo, "While Shepherds watched
their flocks by night." These
parts were played by Mrs.
Gordon Chamney, Mrs. William
Empey, Mrs. Gordon Naylor and
Mrs. , Brian Hallam. Three
